The climatronic in the Polo doesn't have that feature. My friends Touareg and Alfa Brera has that and it actually works really well.

I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's because at idle the a/c compressor is running slower and so won't cool as effectively, meaning the fan must slow to stop the whole system heating up.

kam, does your fan slow down when you stop if its on auto mode, or just in manual?

i never use auto, because i like to be in control

so everything ive mentioned, has been in manual mode

i tried out a few things today, and found that if i use a temp < 22 deg, it doesnt do it as much

if i put it on 22 with a/c, it does it quite frequently

Hmmm well I'll try some things with my Polo tomorrow and see if I get the same results as you.

Yes the fan on my climatronic changes speed by itself in manual mode. I find it tends to compensate for the increase in ambient temperature by increasing the fan speed.

Having the A/C on could affect it because its to my understanding (though i could be wrong) that air conditioning compressors only compress the gas over 1000 or so RPM so it could be that it is lowering or raising the fan speed to either compensate for the lack of cold compressed gas or its trying to preserve what's left of the cold compressed gas until the compressor can create more...

    Just fuel for thought

Has anyone here with Climatronic noticed the left grate/vent thingy on the actual control unit (next to the auto button I think) gets dusty? I tend to clean mine but if I don't for a week or so lots of dust starts sitting on there. Wonder if its a cooling fan for the unit/temperature sensor for something.

I also have a Polo with climate control and always have mind on auto, do not really know what it does in manual.
It is though lately making a noise under the passenger seat which I'm told is the gas for the air cond, sounded to me like a shock absorber or another suspension realated problem. Turn recirculate on and noise goes away. You can really notice it when hitting bumps in the road. Why after 2 yrs of ownership I'm really only noticing it now I'm not sure.
