I went to go get my tyres replaced with the pilot sport 3 215/45R17 for $155 a corner, the tyre guy wouldn't let me do it saying that it would scrub. Even though the increase would only be 1.1cm into the guard.

He pushed me back onto 215/40R17 size which means the pilot sport 3's were an extra $50 a tyre... sales tactic or is he telling the truth?

No chance of scrubbing at all.

Not sure if anyone has said anything as yet but the Bridgestone Re03's in 215/40/17 are brilliant... Stage 2 Tuned and they just grip, minimal wheel spin anywhere, even in the wet. Of course I can make they smoke themselves silly in the wet with a little bit of Steering Lock on, however they just grip so well in the dry.

Dragging up an old topic, I replaced the worn to the indicator original Contis at 49,500 with Goodride SV07 at half the price. Copped a bit of stick on this forum and others. I was going to die, kill my family. They were going to be cheap initially but werent going to last. The grip was going to deteriorate with age etc.

Well I'm happy to report that 53,000 kms later I along with my family are all still alive. We havent even been injured. The tyres have performed equally as well in the odd supersprint and hillclimb. So basically the way I figure it, I get a new set next week for free. I'm sure there will be tyres out there that have more grip but these are as good or near enough to the contis that I cant tell. The only negative I have is that they squeal a little more at the limits.

Bought a Polo Urban+ recently for the better half and the stock 16" rims and tyres were horrid. Changed them out for the motorsport 17" VW wheels and 215/40/R17 RE003s. Sticks like **** to a blanket on the road, it's amazing. A++ would recommend.

Just replace my original Contis after 66k. 215/40/R17. Went to Bridgestone for some quotes. The guy was horrified when he heard that I just done 66k on one set and told me that I will never get that many k’s with any Bridgestones. I thanked the guy, left and went straight to Continental Tyres and replaced the old ones with a fresh set. $218 each, ContiPremiumContacts2.

The guy at Bridgestone must be a bit of a tool. He has no idea how you drive.
