    Polo 6r noise

When taking off in first gear, at about 15/18 kilometer/hour there is a "two stage" klank sound eminating from around the fire wall directly in front of the dash board. This sound only occures after the engine is restarted and takinf off for the first time. Afterwards while on the way, it never does it again. That is, unless the engine is switched off, restarted and the whole deal repeats itself.

After highlighting this to my dealer, it has been identified as the ABS pump resetting itself. This according to the service people is normal. (although I have never owned a car that has behaved like this)

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing such symptoms with their Polo 6r?

Also, can anyone suggest a place in Australia where I can purchase 18x7.5 alloys with 100x5 bolt pattern and a 40 to 45 offset? I have run out of puff searching the internet and ringing wheel/tyre retailers.

    Kind regards

Yep there is another thread in this forum discussing this. After first initial take off after a engine start taking off at a speed of over 15 km/h the ABS / ESP will do a self diagnostics check on the braking circuit - perfectly normal.

Yep they all do it perfectly normal but a bit off putting if you dont know.

What are you going to put the 18's on

Would be far to big for a Polo and probably would exceed max legal diameter by quite a bit.
Can only go up 15mm in QLD and as the speedo in ours is 7% out I was going to put bigger tyres on it to correct that but it would take 40% larger diameter and they would be illegal in Qld and up the gearing rather significantly.

There are many Polo 6r getting around with 18x8 offset 45. They opt for215/35 tyres as compared with standard 17/40 tyres on 7 inch rims. (about 6% taller)

However, an 8 inch rim on 45 offset, it sticks out about 6 mm past the front guards. Hence, in my view not a good option. A 7.5 inch rim would fit well. There were apparently 18 inch GTI look alike (Detroit style) alloys available in Australia (made in China) with a 100x5 stud pattern to suit Polo 6r. (as opposed to Golf stud pattern of 114mm) however they seem to be sold out and no longer available.

    Kind regards

As mentioned the noise is the abs. As for wheels you want a 18x7.5 36p, a 45 offset will sit too far in and posibly rub on the front strut.

The only noise I've ever heard is the central locking. Happens to be around the same speed as the OP mentions

More likely to be 18x8 ET35 that pokes marginally...not ET45. The 215/35 tyre as you state is the best size for 18x8 under the polo.

The ET45 configuration does sit inside the guards but it shouldn't rub on the strut...but that's also dependent on how low you are.

    Hi guys,

I've had my 6r GTI for 9 months now and have done 21,500kms on it xD. I've had the occasional clanking when changing gear, but it didn't bother me as the car was running fine. And after a few minutes you don't hear them no more.

But the last couple months now I'm starting to hear more noises more often and feel shudder and vibrations at idle alot more.
From the lights changing gear manually from 1 to 4 you hear a clank every gear change, from 4 to 7 it's fine (I'm changing between 1600 to 3000 rpm when I hear the clank, but if I go hard I only hear it between gears 1 to 2). But if you drive auto you don't hear the noises as much.
I also noticed that it's idling 100 rpm more than normal (usually idles at 300, now idling at 400 to 450) and it shudders more often than before, like it's about to cut off, and you can feel the car vibrate.

I also noticed that the Oil temp climbs much faster than usual. Usually it takes 10-15 mins of driving to get to 80-85 degrees, but now only takes 5-8mins to get at that temp (This is first start up of the day at around 9am, no difference in driving, same route, and I wouldnt account for the weather because when summer was at its peak it didn't climb that fast). I got an oil top up at 8500kms because oil light went on, and I checked the oil now and it's within normal limits, a bit dark though, but not so dark that it needs a change...

What's wrong??? Is it the DSG?? Do I just need a new clutch?? Your opinions or facts of what is going on will be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

I'm fairly sure your vibrations/'clanks' are normal DSG 'characteristics' and unless they're really bad, not much can be done about them.

Also I hope your engine's idling a tad higher than 300 rpm – not even the diesel can go that low (normal idle is bang on 800 rpm).

The rest of your question should be left to GTI owners I think, cue Gavs...
