email me the VIN number & I see if I can get it from the VGA system christian.sieg@dvg.com.au
Hello,
Would anyone be able to help. I am looking for the location of the engine number for my Polo 6R.
I need the number to fill out the VicRoads exemption form (since it is a turbo car) so the P-plated misus can legally drive it.
I've got the VIN okay, but the engine number (and not the engine code) keep eluding me. Looking around the engine bay and not really know which part to look for. The manufacture sticker only has the engine code and the VicRoads person said that's not what they want.
Thanks
windies.

Isn't the engine number on the original registration papers?
If Christian can't help you out, have a look on the timing case, there will be a label with it on there. Not sure where it's located on the block though but it should be in a fairly visible area for inspection purposes...

Hi windies,
I went through the same hassle getting my car registered in Vic.
Myself and the vicroads guy pored over the car and we couldn't find it; in the end I received a fax from the service department stating the engine number. Thankfully this was accepted by the vicroads guy as proof
2010 Polo GTI - 5dr Flash Red
Completed upgrades: RNS 510 install, Retrofit MDI, Bluetooth
Planned upgrades: Amp, 3 way speaker install
Planned mods: APR tune, Brembo brake upgrade
When mine was built, I got the VIN and the Engine number in the same email from my dealer delivery manager.
They will know!

Had a chat to the techicians...
it's on the side/top of the engine head where it meets the gear box. This is on the right hand side of the engine underneath all the hoses somewhere. Impossible to look at it if the engine is fully assembled... You have to probably disconnect some hoses and need a mirror & torch!

Thanks everyone for helping!!
I ended up with the same solution as GraveDilute. Rang the dealer and the guy didn't know. He then get someone from service department... something something something and they emailed the paperwork for me so I can printed out for VicRoads people. For some reason, Vicroads seemed quite strict on this matter, as their own VIN search service display the engine number as well but they want proof of the actual number. -_-;
But.. all good in the end!~
