    Polo 6R ECU faulty?

Hi, my first post in this section. I have a 2011 polo 6r 77tsi, a week ago when I was driving to wrok on the Nepean Highway then the EPC light, ESP light, engine light all came on, engine was shuddering when idle and acclerate. The car was towed to VW Brighton on the next day.
They called me after 3 days later said 2 cylinder misfire so the coil pack and
ignition leads need to be replaced and the ECU has to be replaced as well. I asked them just to replace coil pack and ignition leads. They called me this morning said everything has been fixed and car is able to drive but the faulty codes are still in the ecu, they can't update it because its an old version, it has to be replaced.
I have no idea whether I need to replace the ecu or not, the coil pack and ignition leads cost me around $900ish including labour and the ecu will be $2800 plus labour.

    Any idea guys?

Find a wrecked 77tsi with the same engine type and score it off a wrecker, should save a bit of dosh there..

In regards to the old software version, I'm not sure that it's faulty just because they can't update it, which I find hard to believe. Maybe try to find someone with VCDS and get them to clear it out for a case of beer?

Thanks Luke, I think "the ecu has be replaced" is BS, I've got VCDS, will try to clear the faulty codes tonight see how it goes.

That's insane, an old version!? As in, VW can't access its own ECU's? RIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

Can you get a report on paper from them about the fault? They're either "dumbing down" the problem for you or straight out lying- and I'd be getting VERY upset if a dealer tried to charge me $2800+ for a part that didn't need replacing!

I think you are being bent over by people that don't know what they are doing. I'd suggest you get onto VW Customer Service straight away.

I thought they'd dumped the coil pack & lead arrangement in 2005 and gone to individual coils for each cylinder? (I don't pay much attention to these engines).

Last time I looked the coil (partno 032905106B??) was about $50 and the leads were about the same (both aftermarket, not OEM)

There is absolutely no reason why they can't clear the codes & if the ECU can't be made error free it's an ECU fault that should be repaired free of charge.
