everything appears ok, the bulb, holder and plug.
I just had a closer look at mine and the bulb and holder are fine, but there is no voltage at the plug at all, except occasionally when it decides to work.
So I think it's a switch or something that's failed.

sometimes the rear washer jet leaks into the boot latch and micro switch and causes issues... press and hold rear washer jet on for 10 seconds then open the tailgate and see if any water comes from the latch area from around the interior trim..

@Polo gti 6r: Hi.
I'm also not sure if Alex is still around !! However, with the hope that I'm not stealing his thunder - this is my very cut-down version of how the "boot light" is wired (I'm assuming that your car is a hatch version):
If you are not familiar with VW's wiring notation - notice T5h /2 on my diagram. This means:
- T5 = is a connector with a Total of 5 x pin positions
- h = a simple designation that identifies this 5 x pin connector from multiple other 5 x pin connectors on the car
- /2 = pin #2 on the connector
So, the story that the wiring diagram tells - is:
- The supply for the boot-lid light (W3) comes from J519 (which is the module for lots of "convenience" facilities on the car). Notice that there is NO circuit fuse - J519 auto protects this circiut
- The same power supply for W3 also feeds W6
Because you haven't said that the glove compartment light (W6) is also faulty - the fault is probably NOT in the J519 wire
There are 4 x connections that could cause W3 to be faulty:
- T2 = the connectors for the boot light
- T5c
- T5h
- T3 = the connections in the boot lid switch, or the switch in F5, itself
According to the Polo repair manual, it's NOT possible to renew the switch in F5 without replacing the entire boot- lid mechanism.
So, my suggestion = grab a multi-meter and start checking the connectors above!!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
You can buy a whole new Boot release on EBAY for about $30 and is identical to a factory part Difference is about $100 and fixed a similar problem in our Polo . You can also buy a new LED light on Ali Express for under $20 which gives much more light
