    Polo 1.2 TSI throttle response

    Hi guys,

The throttle response is shocking in my Polo when it is in the 'D' mode, its feels fine on sport.

Is there a fix for this? would tuning the ecu fix the lag?

I really would like to get this sorted out cause its driving me nuts!!

AndrewBurns is right my friend. Unless you want to fork out for the dsg to be tuned by a 3rd party tuner then the only way to if the lag in D is to drive in S or manual, or just flog the crap out of it in D at the expense of drivability and fuel economy. No need for such volatility in a response to a fellow forum member trying to help you out.

I apologize I didn't mean to be volatile.
Its just that the other day I was switching lanes and the response was so bad I almost got rammed by a patrol.

Lol no he doesn't but he is correct.

The way the program's are set up is for either performance or economy. It also varies the throttle accordingly.

For example: "sport" mode - when you push the pedal down 50% it's actually equaling about 75% at the throttle body. This is where it feels more sporty.

The "drive" program on the other hand is the opposite. 50% pedal is about 30% or so. I don't know the exact number but it does scale like this. It's so average people who don't really know how to control throttle can still get good fuel economy.

Manual from what I can tell is 1:1, so 50% pedal is 50% throttle.

The rate at which you push in the pedal also varies the timing for a gear change. If you push slowly it will usually hold the gear and give more throttle to pick up speed (smooth but slower) if you quickly mash the pedal it will shift up about 3 gears.

I will say it is different to get used to but it makes sense once you do. I will say they is make "Drive" way to lazy, and "sports" way to aggressive.

Yeah that's definitely true, the sports mode is really good but its just the fact that fuel economy is compromised.

Do these polos have an adaptive transmission by any chance?

I love my manual, none of these problems It's just a damn shame they wont sell the Polo GTI in manual or I'd probably look at one of them as my next car.
