Love mine it's been a good car for almost a year of ownership . VW seems very hit and miss (reliability) these days by the sounds of it, if it wasn't for their arrogance and lies to so many reported issues I'd say go for it, however think you may be best off avoiding them and support another manufacturer who will treat you with some respect!

I've had mine two years and 30000ks. It's only ever been to VW for the regular services and recalls, never as a result of a problem. I bought it for my daily commute which is usually along Sydney's choked peak hour roads. I think I may have had a false neutral early on but I was still coming to terms with the DSG at the time, I've not had one since. I like the interior, fuel economy and overall performance of the car.

Another happy customer here. Had mine for 1yr and 3 months and clocked up 12, 000ks. Only issue I've had was a warning light at around 7000ks but it hasn't come up since and had no other issues.
I still get excited every time I take it for a drive.

Don't ignore good advice! Asking people to tell you what you WANT to hear isn't going to help you in the long run. Most posts in this thread so far are from low mileage cars.

I get that you are excited about the prospect of the car. We were too and initially we loved it but that feeling is long gone.

If you are happy to be without your car for warranty repairs, happy to buy expensive oil to regularly top it up, happy to have the car shudder when you take off as the clutch slips away, happy to potentially end up with a bust engine that requires extremely expensive repairs after warranty then buy the GTI, ignore the good advice you have been given here.

Ours has been in 3 times for high oil consumption which they haven't fixed. It's been in twice for other issues including faulty sensors that resulted in loss of power. It's booked in next week for the clutch issue.

It pings under acceleration at times followed by a nice puff of smoke out the back. It is less than 2 years old.

I had a 118TSI, same motor and same gearbox and it had similar issues. I got rid of it quick smart.

You should be minimising your risk. Unless of course you are rich and don't mind wasting money.

I am trying to help you. Listen to the sound advise people are giving you on this forum. Go buy a Fiesta ST. It's newer and just as quick.

    That's his or her prerogative.

Riklink, if your heart is set on a Polo GTI, this forum will welcome you with open arms and support you (whatever your decision may be) but don't say you weren't warned!
