Picked up new car - questions

    Hi everyone,

I picked up a new 12.5 polo gti on the weekend and I have a couple of questions.

My mags have a lot of brake dust on then and it is also collecting on the car, is this normal or am I driving it too hard or will this settle as the car settles in. We have a mark 6 GUI and have no dust problems at all.

The car seems a little loose when driving at speed over 80 Kms, I don't know how to say it but it feels like it needs alignment, I feel at speed at times I am holding on for my life.

The car is rough at start up, quite loud again not like the mark 6 and yes I know it is a different car, you would even say rumble. Normal?

    Can't wait for your feedback

The AU GTI has a pretty light steering setting that coming from a '02 325i I didn't like at all. Luckily you can change the weight of steering using a VCDS cable, which a tonne of Melb Polo owners own and can help you with. Info on what to do is in my signature below...

You can tell if the steering is too light to what your use to if you end up turning the wheel when you turn your head or reach for radio buttons

I would take your Polo down to a reputable alignment place and have the front toe-in checked. Don't bother with the dealer.

    What Nivlac says has merit.
My rear tyres upon delivery were running 46PSI and the fronts were 52psi from memory. If your tyres are too hard, only the centre of the tyre will be in contact with the tarmac. I know that if I run 39 (recommended PSI) in the tyres when driving twisties, the car slips and slides more and is overall more flighty. The factory will over-inflate the tyres to help stop the tyres from taking a set while parked for so long in the one position while on the boat.

You're not alone. There's an entire thread dedicated to it

I guy here designed a bolt sleeve to stop movement of crossmember/SomeBloodyThing, anyway after he put them in the car steered much more directly.
The bolts are smaller than the holes so the front can move around.
Maybe this might solve your issue. If I can find the thread I'll post the link

Regarding noise. Mine is kind a noisey at start up too, sounds almost like a diesel engine

This was for the 9n3 polo, not the 6R.

I think that is a very good idea and I have booked it in for Saturday and not at the dealer.
