There is no structural change from having the sunroof or not, so once again, who would have thought a car salesman would tell lies?!

If anything, the double curved nature of the fixed glass panel would ADD torsional rigidity, except for the glue which would hold it on. a 5mm panel of glass is a helluva lot stronger and stiffer and a piece of 0.6mm sheet steel, the difference is the bonding method, steel is spot welded, glass is glued.

All the glas does is cover the gap in the roof otherwise vacated by the sheet metal.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd add my question here....does anyone know if the key controls operate the sunroof. I know it operates the windows, but don't know about the sunroof. The salesman was pretty sure it did, but 'pretty sure' isn't a yes.

when you put the key in the keylock and manually lock your car and hold , every window and sunroof can be closed. i haven't tried the opposite to open the windows.

the remote will operate all windows and sunroof for closing only. it will only open all the windows , not the sunroof.

I think it will also look great on the red. Red and black go well together and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

In speaking with the Dealer on Saturday, mine will be the first GTI they've delivered with a sunroof. Will post some pics when I have it, which I reckon should be toward the end of the month.
