If you paid cash its yours and no one else's and so the insurance company would pay you out and take the remains to sell or whatever.

Most HP contracts say the article is not yours until its fully paid for so until then you are driving around in the insurance company's car, sort of.
The buggers. Oh well, I guess we just gotta cop it unless you happen to have the cash to buy a car outright!

Depending on who your finance company is, most insurers will ask for more money. Typically if it's one of the big banks there's no fee, but when you start getting into credit unions and non-bank-lenders like GE then they start to jack it up, since it costs more for them to settle a total loss claim.

Ah ok that makes sense. It is with a credit union. I guess that's ok then, as the credit unions are giving me a way better interest rate than the banks would give me.

If you're not fortunate enough to either be able to pay cash or drawback on a home equity loan then the credit unions are always a mile in front on car loan rates. Although I have seen business buyers picking up fairly competitive lend rates as well via banks or their affiliates eg Esanda.

Wow they certainly need a lot of info just to quote a CTP premium. Age, postcode, accident, infringments etc etc
In QLD they all charge the same amount.

blimey that's cheap, my TSI is more than that.

have been playing around with online quotes (looking at getting a GTI later in the year) and was quoted $866 with NRMA (drummoyne NSW, 35 years old, good history). Interestingly the Golf GTI was $776...

I'm 20 with my polo gti.

Insurance in my name is $1700-1800 p/a
    Greenslip was $730!!
I feel sorry for myself at this age you just get ripped with everything. I've never had an accident or lost any points and I copy the massive insurance premium and greenslip...

It's that time of year again

    2010 Polo TSI with NRMA:

Comprehensive - $555.74 (36 years old, $1k excess, max no claim bonus and multi-policy discount)
CTP - $573.25 ($40 more than last year even with multi-policy discount. Got some BS story about the government "setting" CTP prices)
    Rego - $288

An even bigger scam is stamp duty of up to $5 per $100 of value on transfers of rego!

oh and yearly service is due
