    Options for LED DRLs?

I've seen some images of LED lights placed in the fog light location as DRLs, and others with a row of LEDs just below the headlight.

What are the easy to install options and any recommended place to get the parts?

I'm thinking of these. I've never needed to use my foglights, nor do I plan to. The benefits of living in Coastal QLD.

I wonder if it comes with all the wiring required to install them on a car without fog lights already installed? Probably wouldn't be a bad investment for $170 if it does.

Shouldn't be too hard as it seems you just need a wire back to a 10amp fuse and an earth. There are a couple of spare ones in the fuse box as I have got my dash cam running on one of them.

If someone gets a set I would like a look in Brissy presumably our 2010 would be identical

Hopefully it's possible. And easy-ish haha
Yeah if anyone gets a set and likes them or has any comments I'd love to hear from you because I'm definitely interested in them.

Personally I think I looks a bit cheep but that's just me. I can respect the effort they put into it though.

If it was me I would just change some settings in VCDS to make the foglights act as DRL so they are on all the time. The other option if you don't have OEM foglights would be to change the settings to make the parking lights always stay on and then change the parker over for a bright LED globe - or you could put a led strip on the bottom of the headlight but I found that after heavy rain some led would go out until it dried up again.

Yeah except that having fog lights on when there's no fog is illegal (in Vic at least) and you can be fined for it. Plus it pisses other drivers off because they're really bright and they tend to shine right in the eyes of oncoming traffic.

LED parkers wouldn't be very bright would they?

Actually fog lights are legal if they are "worded" correctly, that's the loophole. If you call them a foglight then they are illegal. If you call them a daytime running light you can get away with it - yes there is more to it than just that but as it stands a DRL cannot exceed 1100lm and be seen 45 degrees from dead on to the light.

Because the fog lights on the polo use 35 watt globes the lumens would probably be the same. It would make it hard for a cop to distinguish between them so they probably wouldn't do anything about it - so long as you coded the foglight to come on with the ignition which is a easy fix is VCDS.

Also if fog lights are blinding you they are extremely poorly aligned and is both bad for the driver and you. Fog lights are only meant to emit light up to 15cm height from the road and about 5m in front. their sole purple is to cut through the fog so you can see the road. A properly aligned foglight will be as blinding as a properly aligned low beam - practically zero.

And LEDs are "technically" brighter anyway only because they are directional by design and concentrate light into a beam where a standard halogen globe emits even light all the way around

they almost look like the standard GTI lights... would suit the Xenons too. Interesting if they are the same!

I think I'll put the order in after payday (Wednesday). At the moment my GTI has all it's lights on as DRLs and I'm kind of sick of it, and people asking why my lights are on... If anyone reading this has a VCDS in Brisbane, might I ask to borrow it to have the nordic setting turned off?
