Oil Overfill HELP!!!

I had my 2011 Polo 77TSI serviced on the 21st of Jan. Stupidly, I did not check the oil level until now and noticed that the oil level is way past maximum(checked it warm, 30 min after short 10 min drive). Oil on dipping stick shows its about 10mm above the bend and 20mm above the last dotted line. The manual states it should not exceed the maximum point. Its not clear what exactly the max point is as the manual shows a different type of dipping stick but from what i gather I think it exceeds the very maximum point by 10mm. I haven't had any issues for the past month and i've done 1200k's since. Should I be concerned about this? Could that level do any damage? Should I raise this with my dealer? I noticed they also overfilled my coolant reservoir too. Pics below. Thanks

If your dealer caused this then yes I would definately bring it up with them.

Engine oil - for 1.2 l 77 kW TSI
The engine should be at its nominal operating temperature before checking the level.
After shutting off the engine, wait at least 3 minutes so that the oil can flow back into the sump.
The MIN range is the smooth region below the rough region & above the lower bend.
The MAX range is the smooth region above the rough region & below the upper bend.

There is a danger of damaging the catalytic converter if the oil level is above the MAX range.


Coolant
The level must be between MIN and MAX when cold.
However, it is normal for the level to be slightly above MAX when hot.

You should certainly raise the issue with the dealer.
And while you're there, you should check the oil capacity of your engine.

1.2 l 77 kW TSI engines manufactured up to May 2011 have a oil capacity of 3.6 l, whereas those built from June 2011 have an increased oil capacity of 3.9 l.

It is possible they may have overfilled by misidentifying your engine.

Over filling the oil can cause damage. I would take it in and get them to drain some out (or do it yourself, but it would be messy). Coolant is not so harmful at the level in your picture, so I wouldn't be concerned about that, but I would still mention it to them in the hope the service guy gets a talking too to stop in happening in the future.

I wouldn't care....its under warranty....if it gets damaged it gets damaged....they have to pay for it.

Yeah, I'd normally agree Acko, but with peoples experiences with service departments, it would be just as easy for them to turn around and not warrant any catalytic converter damage and deny any wrond doing...

marcs, check your service reciept, see if it has a qty value against the oil cost, then you might be able to tell if they just made a boo boo and didn't take into account the smaller sump maybe....

guys i went in there today and spoke to a head mechanic, he said they do purposely overfill them however he said mine was overfilled by 3mm. He said that it wont do any damage. He said that these cars have a high oil to fuel consumption. He said I wont need a top up obviously. Whats the purpose of the manual then seriously!!!

thats BS.. 20.000 km's done and not a single drop of oil consumed
If overfilling could not harm the car, then why would VW bother to set a MAX-marking on the dipstick anyway? I think it's there for a reason
