Noise at low revs under load?

I was wondering if anybody else heard a sort of fluttering noise at low revs under a bit of a load. It's very hard to describe but would be quite noticeable if your car does it. I know you are not meant to strain the engine at low revs but this is at about 1400 rpm which is when it should have plenty of torque available. Also this is in drive with the dsg and under cruise control so surely it would simply change car if necessary? I just wish I could describe the noise better.
