Lightbulb New Polo - RCD510/RNS510 - MDI NOTICE

    Hi all,

After getting in touch with someone from Continental AG regarding my tweeter distortion issue (I just couldn't accept that two brand new tweeters in my car were boned), I was advised to change my Aux Input level from High/Medium to Low and all my dreams would come true. Sure enough, they did.

Fix Summary: Setup -> Media -> Aux Input Level: Low

The reason for this is the audio output from the MDI box is routed via the AUX input of the RCD/RNS unit.

Someone please sticky this to avoid future head banging.

In addition to this, to avoid slow iPod performance, apply the latest MDI firmware update:

    Doco: http://87.230.74.92/fileadmin/pdf/me...Z_englisch.pdf

    File: http://87.230.74.92/fileadmin/pdf/media_in/mdi.bin.enc

How?: Find a small USB key, format it FAT32, put the file above on the root folder, connect it to the MDI port using the USB MDI cable. Once you insert it, turn on the RCD/RNS unit and press the media button (if it's not already on that menu) and you can see what the update is doing.

My Polo was delivered a week ago and the firmware in the MDI was out of date. This update stopped the between track's pause when playing music and generally increased the navigation speed.

There's no harm in trying to update your Polo 6R, if it's already up to date, it will say that the update is unavailable.

    Hope this helps!

Hey, that's nifty! Do you know what else the update is good for?
Specifically, I hope my Android phone will be able to connect after that... also, that it will decode Apple Lossless files, without needing to convert to mp3...

Edit: Thought I didn't have a MDI to USB cable but checked in glove compartment and there it was. Will have a go at the firmware upgrade over the weekend

I just completed this update - it took no time at all. And has made no noticeable difference so far.

Reading the documentation, I shouldn't expect what I hoped for (see above post)...

    Changes I noticed:

-iPod no longer has a 1 second blip in the start of the track when it plays, stops, then plays again.
    -iPod navigation is faster.
-iPod turns off when radio unit turns off (previously it kept running and being powered).
-iPod track changing is faster with less delay when skipping multiple tracks.

    Just my 2c.

Gave the upgrade a go. Didn't have to specifically reformat the flash memory stick nor did it seem to require it to be empty. Only took a minute to upgrade. Unit seems more responsive. Had 5 year old son wanting to press buttons on it so didn't have a chance to play with it a lot. Thanks for posting this!

Works a treat. No need to clear USB stick. Just chuck it on, attach to MDI, switch on RNS and select media. About 40 secs to upgrade.
    No strange silences between tracks.
    Nice one mythik

Well that did the trick! The between tracks pauses were driving me nuts, and it is definitely faster navigating the ipod now. Cheers mythik.
