So, here's the normal shutdown process:

    - You are driving along listening to RCD/RNS + MDI.
    - Destination reached, turn car off, remove key.
    - Open glovebox + look at ipod, you will notice that it will unmount the ipod device and the ipod will sit on the root menu without the power/charge icon.
    - After a delay, the ipod will go to sleep (based on the ipods sleep settings). It is neither mounted nor powered at this point.

The key, ironically, being the key. If you have the key anywhere near the car ignition, it will energise and mount the ipod in preparation for you turning on the car to limit the delay for MDI initialisation.

EG: when you unlock the car, it powers it up/mounts in preparation for you wanting to meddle with it. If you don't use it after a period (probably a minute or two), it unmounts and powers off again.

    Hope this helps.
