Oil light - now chances are you have just gotten a faulty oil pressure sensor (which i have read a few people having) and it says your oil pressure cannot be read. This will throw up a major fault. If you have run out of oil, only the oil light would pop up and the car would drive like normal. There is a possibility that the oil pump is bad but extremely highly unlikely considering it runs of the crank and is mechanical.

I would also be checking the oil filter and whether it has incurred any damage near the seal. I had the oil pressure alert coming on for months (drove me mad) and after many visits to the workshop with no diagnostic faults showing... I became rather fed up over this. Eventually they discovered the filter was damaged where it mounts, replaced it and bingo I haven't had the problem since.

Unfortunately this is the problem with most of these new cars, they are getting much too computerised and as a result they are just becoming more unreliable.

In a old fashioned car it could be stuffed for 100,000km before a troublesome part becomes critical (but considering most parts were mechanical the chances of anything failing was low), but now just the tinniest fault from a sensor and the car comes to a halt becuase it doesn't want to damage itself.

Smart yes but when people are not informed of these things - annoying and bad for reputation. I have had a similar sonario in my car and was caught out by it.

One of the spark plug leads went in my car and it was misfiring. As a result the cylinder was shutdown and went into limp mode. it is very smart in a technical sense to protect itself but limp home mode is just dangerous as you have very little control over the car and it goes when it wants to go - not when you want to which is gut wrenching.

My dash lit up like a Christmas tree (EPC, ABS, ESP, engine check light) and I thought i had a major engine issue (actually thought I had blown a cylinder as it was violently shaking and making all kinds of noises that I normally wouldn't expect from misfiring which is usually just pinging)

turns out it was only a spark plug lead and after replacing it was fine. In a good old fashioned car the engine would run 100% normally even if one cylinder was missing (besides the pinging and slight loss in power).

Just checking to see if this is common, new Polo GTI I have a slight clunk noise coming from the front brakes the first time I brake after changing between forward and reverse. I'm guessing it's the brake pads shifting slightly in their housings but I'm also worried that it could be something more serious (something loose in my suspension setup).

Any advice, anything I should take a look at? Or is it very unlikely to be a problem.

Well not me...however whilst driving to work...a Polo GTI all of a sudden loss power in front of me...glad I was behind him as I knew what had happened as soon as his hazards went on.

So...VW's with a DSG don't lose power all of a sudden eh VW?

Gee I just love that burning/oily smell from the engine compartment when the DPF is regenerating... Such a fresh and relaxing smell that is so reassuring of the car's normal behaviour and definitely doesn't smell like the car is about to burn to the ground...

I had a "clunk" noise in my 77tsi after only doing 2000k's!! Took it back to vw and they said it was the bushes in the front end? I got the car back two days later and it's been fine up until last week (23450k's) when I heard that same "clunk" noise, but it only seems to be a one off.

Had car in dealer for a couple of warranty issues. Replaced rear hatch strut that had failed and dealt with TPI 2033175 sound actuator vibration.
Tech noticed constant ecu fault P055600 related to TPI 2030355. Anyone know what this fault is?
Dealer in process of installing new computer hardware, doesn't want to risk crashing ecu at the moment so will deal with in a couple of weeks.
