NS Volkswagen have asked me to take it to them the next time it does it and they'll send out a 'Senior Technician' to assess it.

My advice is speak to Jason Jeboult when you take your car in.

With the "senior technician" claim seeing is believing as that mob there allow the apprentices to take the cars out (an apprentice was the one who damaged my front splitter).

I usually speak to Chris C. He's very friendly and helpful! Yeah, I'll drive the car and the 'senior technician' can sit in the passenger seat and observe the issue. Agreed, I don't trust who they'll let take my car.

    Thanks for the help, Hail!

What the noise or the shaking?

I am getting a similar issue, I don't remember this happening previously (my gf says it has always happened), but when I cold start my Polo GTi, the revs vary a lot, from around 500rpm to 1100rpm, when the RPM is low, it almost feels like the car is going to stall. Once the engine is warm, the RPM is fine.

That's just the warm up of the catalytic converter. When the right conditions are met the engine will do a high idle to speed up the control of emissions. The high idle will usually sit about 1200rpm to about 45 degrees engine temp when it goes back to a normal 600~rpm

I don't know what to make of this post. Does knowing what causes it actually fix the problem? Or are you suggesting that it is normal for a car to do this?

I will upload a video of this hopefully tonight. I don't think it is normal to almost stall during cold start. Although I cant see any dramas with the car after the first few seconds of start up.

I think it's the DSG starting to become problematic, but I'm not 100% sure. Any ideas as to what it could be?

    Thanks in advance, Guys!

Any chance you could do another video - with video. I'm finding it hard to determine which sounds are "normal" and what is truly off. I only say that because listening to the video your car sounds like a diesel with the muffler removed

With my DSG clutches mine never shuddered (continuously anyway, i did manage to do it once or twice when i really pushed it in hot weather), mine were slipping though and as a result I got like a eek eek eek sound until it got into second. After my clutches were replaced I haven't had a noise like that since.

It could be that, like me, you looked after the clutches and didn't creep or force them to overheat and as a result it didn't delaminate the clutch compound (like is what is happening on other clutches) but what it could have done is glaze the face of the clutch and cause it to slip making the sound.

Also these gearboxes rattle when they are subject to vibrations (pot holes, speed humps) which are normal, but because the clutch is slipping then gripping and slipping etc it could be shaking the gearbox around making it rattle...

Sure! Next time it does it, I'll try and tape my phone to the bonnet or something and make a video with picture... I had the phone taped to the battery in the engine bay for this video - that's why it sounds like a diesel with no muffler! Haha. The turbo sounds cool up close, though!

Like you, I always look after the clutches and I never creep on them, but this problem has just started to happen within the last few months.

I called a mate of mine who works at another dealership in Sydney (also owns a Polo GTI himself) and he said that he had the exact same issue that I had in this video and that it is a 'known fault'. Long story short, he is going to arrange for the clutches to be replaced and apparently that fixes the issue for good (hopefully).

    It's a start.
