My advice to current owners or future buyers thinking of North Shore...find a different VW stealership.

    diesel rattle?

Its started to shake at startup as well again. Used Caltex 98 from day dot, tried BP98 and stopped shaking on startup for first 10-30 seconds and now makes no difference what brand of fuel, someone said that vagcom can show misfires?

its in-fact a carbon copy of TPI: 2027916-8 Constant engine rattling

it eludes to chain drive issues.

So...there is a fix...however VW NS is too lazy to either report it or cough up the paperwork for warranty works to be carried out as it puts them out of pocket with labour costs.

Vagcom can show misfires (in the form of a fault code) but from what I can tell the computer averages the data it out before it issues a fault code. It's something like 20 continuous misfires in a 60 second period or something. I know this because when one of my HT leads went I could reset the error and it would reuse the cylinder again until about a minute of missing and it would issue a fault and disable the cylinder - sometimes it took longer because it would fire once and reset the counter.

The reason I think it does this is because if it counted every bump/knock registered from the knock detector then every time you change gears and the engine shakes it would retard the ignition and disable cylinders. This way I guess you get the best of both worlds...sort of

But it doesn't change the fact that even it missing once or twice here and there is not a good thing (I should know, when I hear mine miss, my heart stops - thinking another HT lead is about to die).

Apparently (I can't remember where I heard this though) these direct injection engines have a tendency to misfire here and there at idle (either its the direct injection system or something else) but people have reported that the problem disappears when a ECU tune is done (and thus ignition timing and the amount of fuel injected is altered)

the whole car shakes when cold when you first start it from go at random intervals for the first 10-30 seconds but the rattle in the youtube video was bit concerning. Its cold and once warmed up it had normal oil level.

Those TPI's are specific to the GTI motor mate so unless it shows in the paperwork the engine code for the 1.2 tsi I wouldn't be heading to the dealer with that TPI...

muli, i'd just be taking it straight back to the dealership, there should be no issues in getting that fixed...

    Name and shame?

Not at all, however if you have a vehicle to be serviced with VW North Shore make sure you suss the service advisor(s) as one of them has a serious weed up his proverbial and a bad attitude.

If you wish to find out the name of this advisor you can find out via pm (if your vehicle is serviced by VW NS (Sydney), I wouldn't wish this service advisor upon my worst enemy...you'd want to slap a leash on him and drag him to puppy school.
It's a shame. I've always had a good experience with NS Volkswagen. Some of the Service Representatives can be a little rude; however, the majority of them have always treated me well.

Lately, this issue has become more and more apparent. After I've been driving for about 45 Minutes to 1 Hour, my DSG occasionally (becomes more frequent the longer I drive) makes this noise whenever I accelerate from a standstill. It's usually when going from 2nd to 3rd gear.

I think it's the DSG starting to become problematic, but I'm not 100% sure. Any ideas as to what it could be?

(You may need to turn the volume up slightly to hear it clearly)

    Thanks in advance, Guys!
