Does anyone have a problem with excessive engine braking? If i'm going slightly downhill at 70 to 80kph, the dsg downshifts and keeps the revs up to 4k rpm. It happens even if I'm not on the brakes. Most of the time I just change up manually.

Is this a normal dsg thing or should i be concerned?

Yep normal.

Originally these gearboxes didn't used to do this (back in 2010 they implemented it I believe) but since then a software update allowed the gearbox to use engine braking for cruise control and normal hill descent.

If you don't touch the brakes at all it won't shift up at all but if you touch the brake for even a second, as you head down the hill and your speed increases it will start kicking back gears to hold your speed (this is done automatically with the cruse control without having to even push the brake)

I have seen it rev up to 4500rpm on mine before it decided to shift up a gear which personally I think is way too high. 3000rpm would be my limit but that's just how it is

To reset the speed its trying to hold just tap the accelerator and it will shift down to the lowest gear

So to (almost) finish my seat story for anyone still playing along...

The dealership service manager called me the other day and said he had the new, upgraded seat base part for the Polo GTi. They had the car for a full day and the seat is now perfect. No noises, no rattles, no movement - it's tight as a drum. Now I just have to get the passenger side base replaced and we're done.

So, to anyone out there whose seat moves a bit, or rattles or squeaks, there's an updated, brand new seat base and raising mechanism part that's just been released to replace the original item, most likely due to the issues with squeaky and wobbly seats.

Would you know if there is a TPI for the seat squeak? Or any more info on it? Part number etc?

Don't think there's a TPI, well, that's what I was told at least. I believe there's a part number on the invoice I received when I picked the car up the other day. I'll try to dig it out and post up as soon as I can.

When did it start?
What devices?

Stuff like that...

From What I can tell from the photo it looks like it got the artist and song title correct but got the album name wrong (or in this case can't read it as it could be too long or have invalid characters) maybe try a different song from a different artist and try a different device in the MDI port.

Sorry about the lack of info before.

It was working perfectly yesterday with my iPhone 4 but today it doesn't want to work.
I've tried both my iPhone 4 and mum's iPhone 5 (with lightning to 30 pin adaptor) but they both don't want to work with MDI.

Strangely, even when nothing is plugged into the MDI my phone still shows up as being plugged in (but is greyed out) as can be seen below:



In this state, with my phone unplugged but greyed out, the same screen still shows when in the media menu:



I've tried turning the car off and on again, restarting my phone and unplugging cables etc. but to no avail.

Sounds like it has glitched and won't disconnect the device. I would say just disconnect the car battery and leave it for 30 mins or try resetting the MDI to factory defaults (though I'm not sure how though).
