Was coding on mine.
Anyone with VCDS can fix - Instruments Control Unit: Adaptation, Coding for service interval extension, Oil level thermal sensor not connected to instrument cluster - reset this to "Oil level thermal sensor connected to instrument cluster".
Takes a minute to set.
I'm pretty sure the sensor doesn't read the temperature below 50 degrees C. I borrowed a Golf blue motion and was the same thing just --.-- until it hit 50 then worked as normal. Did it on every start (where the oil was below 50, so in the morning) so I would say that's how it works.
As above mine has always done that under 50deg

Hrmm interesting.. I don't know if it's faulty or it just hasn't been coded in.
On first guess I thought Barloworld VW were being dodgy by unticking the oil temp option in my settings before I picked up the car from the showroom when they realized I had a faulty senor hoping I wouldn't notice. Shifty pricks!

Another day, another issue found.
1. It looks like when VW installed the reverse sensors, they put the right side of the bumper on too tight and it is touching the rear tail light. After cleaning it on the weekend, I can see bumper and tail light has been rubbing during driving and paint is being removed. This is so annoying, I wonder what my rights are here? I will be asking for a replacement rear bumper to be purchased in candy white and rear sensors applied into that, a respray would be a joke.
2. When cleaning the car on the weekend I decided to clean the inner windows. They have been dirty since new as it smudges when winding them down. I noticed there is a hair between the glass and tint. This wouldn't be so annoying if it was on an edge, but it is right in the middle of the left side mirror when looking from the drivers seat. I will be asking for this window to be re-tinted.
On a bright side, I have driven 500km and the car hasn't broken down. I am tempted to wait until it breaks down again before putting through these complaints (as I know it will happen soon). But I am afraid the longer I wait, they might just blame me for the paint damage. Opinions?
They'll only offer to respray. I had big issues with my sensors when I first got the car (mainly because the dealership were awful). When I picked it up, the sensors were all scratched and looked terrible (it's because they are black adn they paint them the colour of the car). They noted it and I went back in a few weeks to get them resprayed.
They resprayed them and they looked fine - until i drove home. When they let me pick up the car, the paint was still wet, so by the time I drove home, all the crap from the road had stuck to them and they looked worse.
By the end of it, after months of fighting, they gave me a full refund on the sensors. One was to replace the bumper and re do everything but I didn't want to risk them f'ing it up again so I took the cash! That refund was also due to them at sale telling me that the sensors integrated with the RCD-510 and showed up on the screen - that was a lie....!

Gary, if your Oil temp display only ever reads -- its a software coding thing, yours would make 3 that I've seen on MY13, after keeping my car for 2 weeks last October the technical centre up in Sydney figured out a fix for it .... Your welcome.
I posted about it ages ago in a separate thread.
