I agree. I think I will be trading mine in for a Golf GTI, when the time comes - VW can't low ball me on the trade in value, because it is too risky to accept a Polo GTI, can they???

No way, the Polo GTI had a waiting list of 8+ Months. They're not going to low ball you. Even if they do, just go to another Dealership and try your luck there. If they low ball you just say no thanks, shake their hand and walk out. They'll either get ancy and try to get you back or they won't bother. If they won't bother then they obviously didn't need your business.

heres one for the manual 77 tsi owners:

when sitting at the lights, and then putting the gear into 1st, sometimes it feels very wierd, almost like your griding it in, without using the clutch. every other gear is fine, its only when going into 1st from a standstill, and only occasionally happens

not sure if this is just how vw gearboxes are, or if its an actual problem, car only has 900km's on it

Has anyone had any success getting an engine replacement outside of warranty from VW? I have a friend whose Polo engine just went, 6 months out of warranty. I dont have all of the details but I assume it is because of the oil consumption engine design.

Is it the current model? Waaranty is 3 yrs... 3yr 6 mths puts it way back mid 2009 as a purchase

If it's anything like my cousin's Polo GTI it'll be a faulty sensor. His buggered up 4 days after having it. Was not a happy Vegemite, not one bit.

I believe it's just the synchromesh engaging before the actual gear does. My polo does this in first also and even though you have your foot on the clutch, the clutch plate itself has mass and so will continue to spin for a while, meaning your syncros have to do more work to get the gear engaged. My megane does this in both 2nd and 1st, so all gearboxes are different.

That's fine, I'm always happy to help
Quite often in my polo, if you don't wait 3 seconds between depressing the clutch and selecting reverse, it will grind in. Annoying. And if you don't realise your mistake and try to go backwards, all that happens is the gear grinds – not a pretty sound! You have to go back on the clutch, into neutral and then back into reverse. Then it goes fine.
