Sounds like by "software update" they mean "cleared fault code any maybe replaced dodgy coilpack on number 4 cylinder".....

    Could well be...

Overall, I'm pretty unhappy with having to cancel my trip because my 7 month old car decided to have an issue. VW's processes are poor. I was dumped at a service station in a small country town at 10:30pm on a friday night (had to get my mum to do a 300km round trip to pick me up), the car wasn't even looked at until the following tuesday. I had issues with work because I was supposed to be in Brisbane Monday morning and have had all my holiday plans made unworkable.

So, like I said before, the car is probably about to go on the market & be replaced by an 86/BRZ.

Mechatronics and dual mass flywheel failing again. Taking back to Chatswood Classic Cars to possibly rectify :/

Update: Thankfully no problems, the unit needed to be resetted.

Since then very happy and smooth gearing once more xD

The lemon story continues... so after 4000km, and 4.5L of top ups, I got the EPC light and engine light solid and flashing. After a 1 hour wait, NRMA said the engine is misfiring. After another 1 hour wait, my polo is being towed home.

No service center open until Monday, heading overseas on Wednesday... what a mess....

You've probably dropped a cylinder and you'd need the engine replaced! Take car to VW on Monday and leave it with them!

Tow truck just came to take my polo to VW. Also sent them a list of other issues I am having. Lets see if ANY of the issues get fixed. They have a month until I can pick it up, so they have a lot of time to fix it!

Just drove me Polo GTi back home. They advised there was oil on the spark plug in cylinder 4. The sparkies were cleaned and a software update applied. I also complained about the oil consumption of 4.5L/4000km. They changed the following "optimised hose for crankcase ventilation" which i assume is the breather pipe people talk about.

Still getting a lot of soot from the exhaust from the drive home, will have to wait until next month before I can tell how the consumption is going.

    Fingers crossed.

Has anyone had any success getting an engine replacement outside of warranty from VW? I have a friend whose Polo engine just went, 6 months out of warranty. I dont have all of the details but I assume it is because of the oil consumption engine design.

They should repair it out of goodwill.

If not, hit up the Consumer Guarantee laws (through your State's consumer authority) as it wouldn't be deemed 'acceptable' that an engine dies 6 months after warranty.

This is exactly the type of horror I'm hoping to avoid with my car. I'm definitely selling it before warranty ends.
