    I agree with you totally. We would have got a TSI (well, probably a golf) but we found a TDI that Berwick VW used as an employee's car, it had only done ~ 7,000 kms and was much cheaper than a new one (obviously).
    But yes, Modern diesels that have Particulate Filters (DPF's) that drive short trips regularly won't run nearly as well as ones that drive nice freeway kilometres, where they can get up to temperature, and stay there. I suppose that's one of the reasons why in the instruction manual it states 'Avoid short trips'.

    Got a rattle coming from the dash somewhere around the middle near the windscreen. It happens when accelerating and that nice, albeit fake, bass tone kicks in. I'm obviously extremely happy about this considering it started less than 48 hours after after picking it up. I'll be pointing it out at the 1,000 km service.

    It looks like all the Polo GTi's have the noise from the dash, which comes from our awesome fake engine noise! But, you get used to it, and I don't even notice it.

    Also, your first service will be when you hit 15,000km or 12 months.

    Interesting. My dealer told me my first service is at 1,000 km which wasn't a real surprise as tbh i can't recall ever buying a new car without a first service at 1,000 km. I will check the service book to make sure it's required or not.

    Scratch that, I have just been advised by the trouble and strife that our BMW didn't have a 1,000 km service either. I will definitely have to check. That said, they did say it was free so even if it's not required I will probably get it anyway.

    MY13 Gti, the 'fun ' begins

    Picked up 5door Gti 3 weeks ago, loving the way the car drives but have a few concerns after only 1700km.
    Oil temperature in the MFD doesn't work, hasn't worked since I picked up the car, spoke to dealership, they need the car for a day to fix.
    Have the annoying rattle somewhere in the middle of the dash under acceleration around 2800rpm under load.
    Left rear tail light is leaking , & after washing the car on the way home from the delivery dealership I noticed scratches at the top left of the rear screen like a rusty razor blade was used to scrape off a pre-delivery sticker.
    The bluetooth screen thingy doesn't light up when I plug it in but I will read the manual completely before I blame the car and not my lack of patience for figuring out how it works.

    Have clicked over 6000km and have noticed couple of things:

    - For the past few weeks been hearing this high pitched "ticking" sound coming from the engine or maybe the dash. This sound appears to be louder on cold start.

    - The "wooshing" sound from the turbo seems to be louder on acceleration and when backing off the accelerator. Didn't really notice this sound before 5000km. Could this be due to the engine running in? Or maybe hose leaks?

    Hi all,

    Just under 10,000kms with my Polo GTI, have owned it since June now, brand new from the dealer.

    Haven't had any huge problems bar the oil consumption (been in twice for a top up, once yesterday) but lately have noticed something that I'm hoping someone here can clear up.

    When I slow down and the car down gears for a turn or stop, I've noticed a grinding/crackling noise from the engine when it shifts from gears 4 to 3 or from 3 to 2. Has anyone else heard/experienced this, if so what was the problem?'

    Thinking it would be best to take it to the dealer and get them to hop in the car to hear the noise? All required work should be under warranty I would imagine?

    Sounds like the DSG. If it is that, it's normal sounds and the unit does make those noises. I was reading a service bulletin on erWin the other day and it said to explain to customers that this is normal for this unit and basically to suck it up! Hahahaha.

    You sure it's definitely coming from the engine?

    100% sure it's coming from the engine, it's pretty loud too from within the car, and I know you can hear it outside as well.

    What do you mean it's the DSG? They think that sound is normal do they?

    If it's a grinding noise I would be heading back to the dealer. The DSG will click and clack away, sometimes even rattle as the mechatronics unit does it's thing but grinding? Nope, shouldn't be doing that....
