Over the past two weeks my Polo has started to develop two rattles. One was behind the dash in the engine bay and other in the B pillars on both sides. Thanks to 77kw polo TSi's post I was able to isolate the two pipes which caused the dash rattle and taped them thus fixing it

That is until this week, when it kept making the noise whilst in park, jumping out the car at a carpark I traced the noise to inside the engine bay, and discovered these two pipes going down into a metal cavity, just behind the round radiator expansion tank (ball). I fund they were raised and didn't seem 'fixed' via any clips. Pushing them down into the cavity stopped the rattle. If it stays 'stopped' I'm going to push a piece of foam into the cavity to hold them tightly in place.

    Picture of cavity and pipes...
However, the B pillar rattles are getting worse and worse now and I haven't had a chance/lazy to take it back to VW for them to look at. From Gavs's post a while ago, I suspect I may have the same thing. Is it wise, or feasible to try play around with the door striker?

    Rattle 1:
Rattle occurs, especially over poor roads in the passenger side B pillar, tried playing with seatbelt adjuster as that sounds like the correct place but to no avail.

    Solution 1:
Front passenger door striker was loose and over uneven road was transmitting rattle up, through the hollow section of the B pillar. After adjustment, not only is the rattle gone, but the front passenger door internal and external handles feel tighter and more tactile to operate.

Is it the engine light or the actual oil pressure light?

Dealerships have a certain way with words too.

With words huh? Same as calling me up saying that the parts for my car are in when they have been going on about me getting a new, completely new engine? Then me questioning "so parts or a new engine?" And they go apologizing saying 'new engine'. Again, very suss if I got a new engine or NOT!!!! Block and Pistons just replaced? Still have to take my car to another dealer to check it out

You didn't ask them to show you your old engine?

    Good point...

Spoke to the other dealer that I'll take my services to and they said the new engines don't get new engine numbers and use the old one.... So that's two dealers...

They also told me to take the car to the original dealer as they recommended as the engine light appeared yest.

    Today the car drove fine!

Try loosening the latch mechanisms off (Using an 8mm multi-spline), and coating them with contact lubricant, and tightening the 'F' out of them.

I've found this to be very effective on a lot of the current VWs.

I'm not within the dealer network anymore, but I'll try and get an answer tomorrow on the whole thing.

VW have their own apprenticeship scheme, where the apprentices are trained by VW. I'm told it's been very successful so far.

The level of participation that an apprentice may have within the workshop varies from dealership to dealership, and from one apprentice to another. A lot depends on their perceived capabilities. I had two that were polar opposites working under me. One needed their hand held most of the day, while the other one you'd have to tie to the bench. Too keen for my liking! I preferred the timid one! One has turned out to be quite handy on the tools, while the other one had to bail out due to personal reasons.

Thanks for that. I'll have a fiddle with it this weekend

So when they say new engine can also mean just new head?
