    Rattle Problem, now dead engine

    Hey all,

It's almost comforting that I am not the only one with Polo problems.

Got my Polo in early Dec. After 2 months of driving, a rattle that everyone has mentioned could be heard when braking - going 20km and slower and louder when idle. Took it to the workshop and got it fixed. Something about a wrong bracket.

Last week however, when driving out my driveway, I could feel the engine struggling, as if I was driving with handbrake still on. Looked at my dash, noticed that the spanner, or service light was flashing. Car had only 3,000km on it, so no reason for a service. Then the D1, D2 was flashing.

My polo was stuck in 2nd gear! Could not get to third, and was doing 30km/hour with 3000rpm! Called roadside assistance, and by the time they came, the engine could start, but car would not move, even when giving it gas.

Got it towed to the workshop and apparently the mechatronics unit is gone. Will take a week to fix - depending if they can get the parts in early this week.

Did anyone else have this problem?

So annoying for a new car. Spend all this money, and it has been to the workshop twice in the last two weeks. 2010 car of the year which has a dead engine.

I recieved my Gti Polo 4 weeks ago and have taken it back twice already.I was given this car with a scracth which i didnt mind because they fixed it and there has been a strange rattle on the passenger side. Kind of sounds as if something is loose.
They say that it is ok and they couldnt find anything.
Now last friday the car stopped on me and we came to realise that there was no Oil in the engine!!! Now i refuse to accept this car back as i believe there could be internal damage in the engine? Would it be fair to say that there could be??
Also when i received the car they had not removed the plastic bags from the engine and turbo!!! And i was driving this car for 2 days before we realised it.

My question is how would i know if there is damage on the engine also has anyone had issues with rattles?? It only rattles while i am doing 5-10 km
Bloody hell, that is a monumental screwup on the part of the dealership, I would be taking it up with them to replace the whole engine and if they do not play ball, take it up with VGA and consumer affairs because if you have only had the car 4 weeks, there is already a serious engine fault for it to be using that much oil. If they say there isn't a fault with the engine using oil, ask to obtain a written statement in regards to acceptable oil usage per 1000kms. If they refuse, politely inform them that you will be seeking rectification through consumer affairs, VGA and the ACCC, then see if they will replace it.

And yes, I would say it's a fair bet that there will be some significant engine damage if it has been running with no oil in it. RE rattles, see other posts regarding fuel and AC lines, it could be that....

The missus dropped her TSI off this morning to have the engine bay rattle sorted along with replacing a rubber seal around the window on the rear passenger door which had split and the one inside the door frame of the drivers door.

After 8hrs they call her with 10mins notice to say pick up your car, we did nothing and parts will be 2 weeks. LOL was she annoyed!

Mine isn't quite as bad I guess, but I cant drive it, they're coming to tow it tomorrow morning. When i try to go into reverse it just does nothing then it starts to grind/squeal. Managed to reverse it last night but it made these 2 huge clunking sounds.

Thats on top of oil alert - empty, plus the death rattle. Still love the car though.

I picked up the car on Feb 5th after waiting extra time due to an undisclosed (but fixed..) issue when they did the pre-delivery.

Now I look back at it, there have been a couple of instances where just for a moment or two, the car has been out of control, non responsive. Hard to describe the feeling.

Rang Roadside Assist, they dont want to give me a drive car! How is this possible? I only just received a sweet little booklet from them offering the world!

And the worst part is they knew the whole time: the DSG fault is listed in my manual pp.152 and has a print date of 17.5.10. The roadside assist was published the month after in June, and my build date was 01 Sept 2010.

So deceptive! Could they not just fix it..Grr.

That was the feeling I got at well when I got my car towed. I went with the tow truck, and got things sorted out with VW. They made me wait 2 hours to see if they could fix my car there and then, and after they realised it would require more than a few hours, they gave me a tiguan.

It's been three weeks now, and going to pick up my polo tomorrow. hopefully this is the end of the problems.

let us know what's going on with your polo - and if you get a car

Okay okay I need to register my polo problem. It is driving me skatty. It happens almost every drive about an hour after I get home. It leaves me without a drive for up to four hours at a time. It doesn't seem to have caused any permanent damage to the car, but it sure is a worry. My wife keeps taking it for a spin. That's a major problem in my books.

I told her in no uncertain terms it is mine. I won't do that again....it still hurts when I smile
