A honda dealer won't be able to diagnose squat about a dsg. If it's the clutch packs (which will be under statutory warranty, if they say it's not, say that you will see them in court) you can quite easily demonstrate it.
Slowly approach a corner in D, making sure the car is in D2, it will be until you stop due to the VW idiot software programmers. Go as slowly as you can as you start rolling through the corner, then feed in about 30-50% throttle. If you get any shudder, your clutches need replacing.
Once you make the technique work, it's easy to replicate for a dealership.

Well, I had to try this for myself, exactly as you described. I didn't get any noticeable shuddering, but I had the window down as I often do, and instead of the usual clicking sound, I heard what sounded like marbles rattling in a tin. Happened three times in a row. No noticeable issue with acceleration or shaking, but the rattling sound. The obvious question: is this normal?

Shuddering or constant slipping (random rpm spikes) are the only real signs of a bad clutch. Any other noises are considered annoyingly "normal". They can come from anywhere from the dual mass flywheel to the turbo wastegate (77tsi models only). Apparently the supercharger clutch on the 1.4twin charge can also rattle / make a chirping sound...

This sounds more like the 3rd gear selector fork rattle. Due to its position in the gearbox, when 3rd gear is pre-selected the fork can rattle around seemingly with no adverse effects.

I tried this technique yesterday and haven't experienced any shuddering. It actually hasn't shuddered at all after I reset the throttle body position, well I think I did anyway.

First issue occurred over the weekend for me. Check engine light came on. Took car to VW and was asked to bring it back Monday. Start the car today and what do you know no light to be found. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. Also seem to have an intermittent issue with the usb input dropping out.

The little Polo was looked at today, and the DPF (diesel particulate filter) is full of ash, which, unlike soot, cannot be burned off through regeneration. They tried a forced regen, then an emergency regen but with no luck. A replacement DPF is circa $3500 and that is without labour.

Considering VW say the DPF should be maintenance free for about 300,000 kms, or roughly eight years, we will push as hard as possible for this to be replaced under Australian Consumer Law or VW goodwill.
I'll also bring up the fact that we told them, on multiple occasions, that the car was not running properly/stalled while driving etc. and that they failed to replace any defective part until several months later, denied the car was at fault, and blamed it on "your driving style".
The parts at fault back then were the injectors, which were causing the DPF to regenerate every two days which I think would significantly reduce the working lifespan of the unit.

Hopefully we can come up with a solution for this...

That is a shocking run your family has had with this car, Alex (mice eating wiring, damper failure, brakes...) but this takes the cake.
