    Hi guys,

got our Polo Trendline about a month ago. Stoked with the car apart from one flaw.
Every morning since we picked it up, it never starts first go. Usually takes 2-3 goes to get it to start. It turns over but doesn't seem to want to start up. Once started it's fine all day, never another problem.
Doesn't seem to matter whether it's a cold morning or not, although does take maybe 5 goes on a super cold morning. And does't matter whether it's on an incline or decline. Tried a few other things and can't seem to remedy it.
Took it back to the dealer after 2 weeks of putting up with it to be told it is a "software issue" that VW Oz is aware of and are working on a fix. Sounds a little fishy to me? Obviously my next step is to take it to a different dealer, but getting the feeling I may be told the same thing, can't hurt to try though.
Anyone else had a similar issue with theirs? Been trawling around and thinking maybe asking them to check the temperature sensor? Mightn't be working and hence not supplying the engine with enough fuel on startup?
Forgive me if I sound like an absolute rookie, as that's pretty much what I am!

    cheers

We don't have that problem on our MY13.5 Trendline. You may want to try a different brand of fuel and make sure it's 95RON or even try some 98RON. Had a bad batch of fuel once and caused mayhem with loss of power and the fuel economy.... doubled.

I think the software is dim witted as there is a slight lag when taking off (manual transmission) and revs fail to build up on steep hill starts at times. No errors were logged at the last VW check.

So I've discovered another problem with my Polo (surprise...?) When accelerating and changing from 5th to 6th the car seems to "jump" revs as if its slipping the clutch. This is just my assumption that its slipping clutch. Also when under hard acceleration, the brain(mech) seems to take a second or 2 to change from 5th to 6th.

Does anyone know if this is clutch or mechatronics problems?

Definitely not the fuel as we've only ever put 98 in it, from either BP or Caltex. Never the budget places.
I can't see how it can be software if it just does it on cold starts then is fine for the rest of the day? They say there were no faults showing up but I'm skeptical.....

Lately, I've noticed that my steering has developed a knocking sound when I quickly turn the wheel from one direction to another (i.e. when performing a parking maneuver). It also feels much lighter than it used to be (I'm not a fan of lightweight steering).

Any ideas what could be the issue?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply, Hillbilly!

I had them filled with Nitrogen a few months ago. Steering still felt normal after it was done.

The dealership also replaced the steering rods under warranty during the 1Y service. I didn't even mention them, they just said that they were 'worn'.

My Intake Manifold is broken... Engine continues to go into safe mode and struggles in power to drive.. Have to wait 3 weeks to get it looks at! Unacceptable by me to wait weeks to get it properly looked at and fixed as all they've done is reset the computer for it to be normal until then and my engine light keeps going on.

How is it broken exactly? Is it a crack or you just think it's broken?

The only good thing about these engines are they are turbo and direct injection. You can have leaks all though the intake tract and it still runs - normal I may add. I broke one of the seals on the intake from the turbo when I was putting it back on. I only noticed somthing was wrong becuase I could hear it loudly hissing as the charge air passed the seal. The engine ran just as normal and just compensated the wastegate actuator for more boost.

    So maybe it's somthing else...

Also 3 weeks is bull. When one of my HT leads went I called them up on the Sat and they put a emergency booking in for the Monday car was fixed by Tuesday arvo. Just complain or ask another dealer. Anything that causes a fault big enough to stop normal operation of vital components like steering, brakes, engine, gearbox or electronic assists should have top priority above all else.
