Well as the thread is 3 1/2 years old and there are multi replies referring to an OP it isn't so bad. Remembering that for every bad car there are quite a few that haven't had any troubles.

    Our one for instance.

Has had the recalls done and a pair of juddery wiper blades replaced. No need to post on here about that. Other than this reply

Oddly this morning I was stuck in traffic and the car began to rev up and down (in D) by itself from 750 to 1250 rpm by it self.....???? I had my foot on the brake too.

On another note as well, driving at 80kph both with cruise on and off the car was shuddering or jerking a bit. Road was flat and no wind... Just weird feeling coming from the engine and or gearbox. And one else experience this? It's as if the engine is struggling for power but your driving at a constant speed! Even changing gears it jerks a bit.

Here's a short video of the car revving on its own. Need to show dealer... The car was in D, I've tested it at a set of lights in P, N and S/Manual modes and the revs keep going... Car continues to jerk when at any speed and finding it hard to stay at the same rpm...

Probably because you rolled your car about two seconds in

But seriously revving like that usually has to do with an o2 sensor going wacky or something.

I mean the camera went sideways, hence looking like the car rolled over

I would be looking at coil packs and spark plugs mate. One of the cylinders is misfiring but it isn't enough shock for the knock sensor to pick it up. I had this with my 1.2tsi.

Although my car uses HT leads instead of direct acting coil packs in the GTI the concept is the same. The car is misfiring but until the knock sensor picks up the excessive vibration (and it has to be excessive otherwise potholes would set it off) it continues to run as normal. But because the cylinder is not firing correctly it cant idle correctly, so in an attempt to stabilise the idle it puts more fuel into the cylinders to keep the idle speed up.

With my car my no.1 cylinder HT lead had failed (was misfiring and the cylinder was cut off) I wanted to make sure though, so I swapped the no.1 and no.2 leads over and it ran, just like that, revs going up and down constantly - but no limp mode or cylinder deactivation as it wasn't bad enough for the knock sensor to report it. So I decided to change no.1 and no.3 and what do you know cylinder 3 misfired and was deactivated, so it was definitely the HT lead but depending on the location of the knock sensor it may not pick it up.

Next time it does this, go to the back of the car and smell the exhaust. If it smells like rotten eggs (sulphur) then its misfiring. I would get it looked at pretty quick because it could foul up your catalytic converter. Also try swapping the spark plugs and coil packs into a different cylinder to see if you can get it to throw up a engine check light.

The boss mechanic man at Osborne Park VW took the car for a test drive after I had driven the car just before, the engine light turned on the car car was suffering for power.... but when he took the car - it was driving just fine... engine light still on. That's the way isn't it! haha

They took the car in, connected the computer and issue was, and they could see - a cable wasn't plugged into the turbo actuator.... if I can remember well that's what he said. Car is driving fine... that is what has most likely been causing the revving, jerking around/diesel engine type shake in the Polo GTI.... lets hope it'll be fine for them to do a proper check over on Monday (booked in) will get gear box checked out - as that's the original booking... and squeaking passenger chair!
