We had the electric power assist steering switch itself off 5 times over about a week and a half (including 3 times on Saturday).
Turning the car off & restarting would usually reset it.

Anyway, dropped it off to John Hughes VW on Thursday 14th Nov and also asked them to look at the DSG as the change into second wasn't as smooth - grabbed a little. Anyway, they tell me to come pick it up as they couldn't get the EPAS to fault & that it needed a new clutch pack (covered under warranty but ordered ex East). I go out to the car park & BING - EPAS warning light on & no power assist. Left it running & they got the foreman to drive it back into the shop.
Good news: they can find the fault
    Bad news: it won't reset

Can't fault their service, they hurriedly found me a courtesy car. Hopefully I can pick it up this afternoon with both the new clutch pack & a new EPAS motor fitted.

Today I noticed a bit of a clunk or thump noise when the dsg engauged a clutch. Typically it was happening when I pressed the accelerator after having slowed down on the brakes for a while but having never come to a complete stop. My theory is that when slowing down under brakes in D the gearbox had gone into neutral but when I went from brakes to accelerator the engine had a chance to spin up a bit before the clutches engaged meaning there was a bit of a speed difference between them when they did.

Happened a few times during the drive which was primarily stop start traffic on a hot day. I've felt it before but I don't remember it being as often or obvious as today.

Anyone else feel something like that? Normal or a sign of clutches being brutalised by mechatronics unit?

Has been mentioned before as happening when as you say slowing down and then speeding up.

What happens is the clutches thinking you are coming to a stop becomes ready to engage for next lower gear and suddenly it has to change its mind and hunt for the next one up. Causes a slight delay which is probably what you are feeling.

I've been getting this for a long time. I have had to re-adjust the way I drive otherwise I fear my clutch will fall out in small pieces.

I have noticed in a majority of 7sp DSG's going from a high speed (high gear) to stopping quickly (going into a low gear) and then quickly accelerating will usually result in a rough shift unless you give it a second to think.

What I get with mine is regardless of how much time I give it give it will drop the clutch and choose a wrong gear. I help it a bit by waiting a few seconds to accelerate after braking but sometimes it's just unavoidable.

I'm still testing the theory but I think the brake controller could have somthing to do with this (could also be because It feels like I have an air bubble in my brake system).

The time it takes for the brake system to tell the gearbox that the brakes have been disengaged takes too long and what appears to happen is that its...braking braking braking oh look 50% throttle - and as a result it gets confused and just drops the clutch.

Only a theory but I have done some playing around with the braking system (pumping the brakes in neutral / pumping the handbrake in drive etc) with some interesting results - mostly the gearbox working smoothly until the next engine restart.

I will be doing a brake flush next weekend with some high temp, low viscosity dot 5.1 to see if it picks the response time up.

Also the mechatronics will be replaced on the 10th of dec so I'll can see if that fixes it if the brake flush fails

Coming onto the Gore Hill Freeway at Willoughby on Friday night, tried to accelerate when the car coughed and spluttered followed by the EPC light and Engine fault light come on. As it was peak hour traffic I couldn't pull over and we started to get a very, very strong fuel smell in the cabin. Car was running very roughly as though it was missing one cylinder. In the 3 km from Willoughby to the City, where we stopped, it chewed through a ⅓ tank of fuel.

Got VW assist out to have a look who said they would tow it to the nearest dealer.

Turned out there was a short on one of the spark plugs, which caused it to shut down 1 cylinder and run roughly and send the unburnt fuel straight out the exhaust.

Here's my rattle problem on the Indian version of the 77TSI + DSG. Started during a highway trip @ 3800kms, high pitched whine/vibrations (from the left side behind the dashboard). Initially appeared intermittently, and only at low speeds (D1-D2). But it has progressively gotten worse with last night a horrible humm accompanied with the same vibrations when the driving in S mode with the DSG downshifting and rev matching into 2nd. Going to take it into the dealer tomorrow. Praying its the fuel line/ac line issue n not something worse like DSG issues.

So.... after 6 months from my engine rebuild, no oil usage, no misfires..... Today I got the 'Fault In Catalytic Converter' light. There is no loss of power, no signs of any power issues.

I wonder what is wrong now.......

Has anyone had issues with rear wheel camber?. Our LHS rear is wearing the tyre more one side than the other, approx 20 mm lay in at the top of the wheel. Is this common? We havent hit anything hard enough that would bend the rear axle/subframe. Noticed this while doing a wheel rotation, the wheel doesnt sit flat like the others once off the car. 2013 polo gti
