When I either lock the steering to park to the very left or right a skweeling noise occurs... Anyone hear this before?

How loud is it? When you hit the stops the pressure build up in the power steering system has to vent off, it could be this...

I only just noticed this but is it normal that the drivers side windscreen wiper is NOT able to fold up properly. Mine hits my bonnet.....?

Yeah, it's normal. To fold it up properly you have to turn the ignition on, then back off again, then pull the wiper lever all the way down. The wipers will go about halfway up the windscreen and stop. Then you can fold them up without hitting the bonnet.
I think this is written in the instruction manual but I'm not sure.

Standard VW issue! Check out the cars manual, it's worth a read as you find out a ton of little tips like that one!

Seems like a pretty big functionality oversight on VW's behalf.
People who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like

Not really, it's called aerodynamic efficiency as the base of the windscreen is a massive high pressure region on the vehicle so being able to limit the disruption and turbulence in this area can reap considerable gains in aerodynamic efficiency.

In regards to the end user, the instructions are there to read, nobody can blame Vw for the customer not reading the instructions.
