So after 3 days VW say the guys from rental company will call me and organize rental car. 4 days later I finally get the car, which was Today. A few mins ago, the service guy from VW dealer calls me asking have you got a car, what is it, sorry it's not a VW... he then tells me the spare parts are in for my car... I say what spare parts? You mean the new engine? He's like yes, yes the new engine is in. I say so when did it come in? He said today.... he's also eating food at the same time as being on the phone, and I'm waiting for his responses. He says the car will be ready next week, any day next week and he/they will give me a call. I have the rental car for 8 days and if it needs to be extended they will extended. But the car should be ready next week, they will test the new engine and should be working fine. Service isn't that good from these guys, as i've written in the last post. They have lost me once I get my car back!

The dealership could not supply me a part number/engine number as it was still in the crate/box. So two/three days after getting the engine they still hadnt begun the work... Sometime next week then eh...

Lazy bums...seriously they lack the "pride" that was once apparent in all industries...most people are becoming fat, lazy, complacent, suffering from tall poppy syndrome....

Sheesh some of us owners can do a better job if we had all the equipment...

So I got my car back. New engine and all. The dealership advised me that VW direct did not supply an engine number and they just place the previous engine number, the one that was replaced with the original engine. I requested them to find out the build date and other details on my new engine.

Only report - the km reading was not placed back to 00000 which is understandable, they tested the car for about 10kms and washed it.

The throttle/pedal is a bit vibratey and I've warmed up the car and oil in idle. The engine looks clean but not the top plastic cover looks original and when I started the car there was a loud rattle close to pillar A radio speaker. Seems to be gone now.

I will be going to another VW dealer this week as they, I spoke to another dealer told me to come in and let them check everything is OK and done and that's where the rest of my VW business is going.

With all the stuffing around you got, I think that is a very wise move. I still don't think it's a new engine but I will gladly be proven wrong

Mine is also the same engine number - and they reuse as many components from your old engine as possible so yes you won't have a new cover. They did replace my waterpump at the same time but apart from that the other components are from the original engine according to the dealer I had mine done at, and that makes sense as all the other stuff is ok. It's illegal to alter the odometer reading ...i was expecting a different engine number though!

So far mine is doing well with no movement at all on the dipstick, no more black splatters on the back of the car as well so I hope the same for your new engine too

Last I heard, they were just rebuilding the engines.

Unless the pistons and bores are trashed beyond repair, you wont be getting a new engine.
