Sorcam: I also do not have the automatic climate control. But my aircon stays on if I don't turn it off. I have mine permanently flicked onto "1".

Both the aircon and recirculate lights stay on when I start the car up the next day etc.

I don't flick the aircon off when I turn the beast off at night, but even the times I have, if I switch it to 1, I have never had to push the buttons to turn the recirculate or the air con on either.

    Thanks
My recirculation kept on switching on and I couldn't figure out why until I read somewhere (don't know if it was in the manual or somewhere else) that when you chuck it in reverse, then it will recirculate so that it doesn't suck in your own exhaust. Since reading that, I have noticed that it does seem to come on by itself when I'm reversing out of my driveway.

So much for a 3 week wait - my car is fixed and ready for pick up. A bit worrying that they found a part that was supposedly going to take 3 weeks to come in. Maybe me complaining to the general manager of the dealership got somewhere. Lets just hope with the massive hail storm in Melbourne yesterday that my car was stored inside. I'll be going over it very carefully when I pick it up!

Once again, thanks for the input.

I have it booked in tomorrow for the rattle to be investigated so will mention the air recycling as well.

Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas..

Took it to the Chatswood Classic Cars service centre in Artarmon today along with a print out of this thread. Within 2 hours they have verified the problem, confirmed it's the "known issue" mentioned in previous posts and have ordered the new part. ETA is 1-2 weeks and I'll have to book it in again, but no biggie if they're doing a genuine fix. They even washed and vacuumed the car while I was on my way to collect it
    Dear Laurai

One thing I hate about the POLO is the fact that the speedo reads 7kph fast.

That is at 100kph on the speedo you are only doing 93 when checking against a GPS.

VW say its legal and cant be fixed anyway.

Whilst I know its legal I dont see why a software fix canrt be applied as they are apparently an electronic speedo.

To fix it with a different tyre size is out as it would require tyres that are 40mm larger diameter and would be illegal here in Queensland and would alter gearing significantly.

Our car doesnt have the noises at the front but has an annoying tinkling sound in the left rear.
It is a noise like a loose washer or the tab on a zip banging on metal.

Cant find it anywhere and now my new Passat TDI has a similar noise in the same place.

    Maybe bult in annoyances LOL

omg read all these issues from page 1-well to here .. expecting a vw history to prevail and to solidify my conviction to buy a Gti polo ... now i dont know whether or not to warn anyone of whom i see own one on the road ... personally thank you everyone from helping myself and possibly others from buying such a lemon series of vw ... i really do wish you all the best with the issues though, and hope the dealers start obtaining some foresight to fix these issues at-house before final delivery to future customers, kudos to everyone of whom have given those in need advice

i find it pretty funny at the incompetence of some dealerships that a lot of you have had to use your own spare time to find the source of the problems that have arisen ... lol i have a sore neck from shaking my head so much from reading all these consistent problems ...

before i get flamed i understand that cars have problems, but i personally have not witnessed the numbers that are seemingly being faced by polo owners
Ok, at the risk of rehashing an old point, internet forums where people talk about their subject of interest -like this one- will always have a group of people facing problems with it talking the issues over. That's why they're here. It Does Not, Does Not, provide an empirical basis for the statement that these cars are unreliable.

VW is close to the biggest car maker on the planet, and makes, generally, stuff thats pretty tight. Sometimes that doesn't happen, and when you spend a shed-load of cash, like we all have, on a new car and it is infuriating.

I disagree entirely with the assumption that (Lots of posts on a polo forum) == (said polo is unreliable/lemony). It is a classic case of false equivalence.

For my 2c, my GTI has been flogged, rear ended a 4x4 (While in the hands of the first person I lend baby to), and is tight as a drum. Doesn't squeak, rattle, complain, moan, nor does a damned wheel drop off when I look at it.

To conclude, if you feel as though the previous posts are cause not to pick one up, fair enough. But I'm going to go out on a pretty solid limb here with:

    Remember. False Equivalence.

Mine is 5kph out and so is the Amarok we have.

I prefer it, because when I pass that speed camera and have an 'ohhh sh*t' moment, I know I've got that 5 up my sleeve!

I'm currently awaiting for a new sound amplyfier to delivered. Currently running without one and the vibration noise has stopped. The engine noise in the cabin is a little quieter, but to be honest I kind of miss the rumble of the engine. Unfortunately to my horror, there is a different tinny rattle at 5k rpm @70Kmph from the same place Only happened a couple times but hopefully this will stop once the replacement part has been installed.

I took a short video of the original noise for your viewing displeasure

They're going to check ECU etc for firmware updates and also checking for a new clutch pack.

And my missus forgot to ask about the "sticking" key issue...guess that will have to wait until January too.

That makes both our VWs on the sick list. The R32 has a dodgy aircon, and I'm waiting for thr dealership to get the appropriate equipment to check/rectify the problem.

At least the FJR (touch wood) is running. Thats in for a full enema next week.
    *UPDATE*

Polo has been diagnosed (by Dealership & VWA).
    1. New gearbox. Appears it has to come from Germany (not Singapore as I woudl have first thought). Could be a bit of a wait.
    2. New ignition key barrel. Also has to come from Germany (apparently).
    3. And...drivers door window has started making some 'grating' noises during operation. That was reported yesterday as well (when the car went back for the finalised diagnosis above), and a new power window mechanism is on order for that.

Vehicle is drive-able...still shudders at low speed quite a bit....key still gets stuck and won't turn correctly. Bit of a disappointment really. I'm now getting a lot of "I told you so!!" by Mrs Should-have-brought-a-Mazda. A simple extended middle digit in her direction with a knowing smile seems to keep the peace for now.
