Mine uses about that. But thats with any kind of acceleration at all. The only way to get less than 6.4l/100km i found is either highway driving with feather light acceleration, or just no discernable acceleration at all during city driving... The instant any kind of enthusiasm is introduced to the car... I find the fuel consumption jumps up to around 14 or so.

Sent our Polo to the dealer yesterday. Shuddering in low gear changes. Service supervisor confirmed that its not the first one they've seen. Car shuddered during his test drive, so confirms theissue. Now rebooked for early January for a day of testing. They're going to check ECU etc for firmware updates and also checking for a new clutch pack.

And my missus forgot to ask about the "sticking" key issue...guess that will have to wait until January too.

That makes both our VWs on the sick list. The R32 has a dodgy aircon, and I'm waiting for thr dealership to get the appropriate equipment to check/rectify the problem.

At least the FJR (touch wood) is running. Thats in for a full enema next week.

Just spoke to the service manager. The orange check engine light isn't necessarily related to the Catalytic Converter. It could be anything and until they plug it in and see what the fault codes are, they can't be sure. He said if it turns red, then the car will go into safety mode and I'll struggle to get to them!

    Awesome. Good times ahead!

And today the GTI gave me a bit of a hairy moment and unsure what the story is as its only done it once.

Pulling out of an intersection in S and gave it a bit of stick and got a small chirp from the tyres, all of a sudden the power completely died and the car wouldn't move.
I had to put the car into D and then it car drove off as per normal.

Would have been damn scary if their was on coming traffic .

I drive mine with a mix of styles - including pretty hard driving about 50% of the time - and return about 7.8 l/100km.

Doesn't matter, mine has 800 on the clock and the check engine light is on. Just went to take it to the dealer but I drove about 500m and all I could smell was burning......so I turned around and came home. Waiting for the dealer to open so I can call them......

These sorts of problems are really scary...especially if you consider if someone not familiar with the car such as another family member was driving or traffic was coming as you suggested. Maybe not quite on a par with toyotas "rocket" car issue but still very serious. To me this is even more disconcerting than the oil consumption problem.
