Ok so update on the above.
Ended up taking it to another dealer who was light years ahead in terms of service and actually seeming to care that we had any issues with our brand new car.
Picked it up this morning after the dealer had hooked it all up with the computer and VW came back with a software issue for the problem. Still find this weird, but oh well. Left it overnight at the dealer so they could do a cold start this morning and all good, apparently. Will obviously try myself in the morning. But fingers crossed!
If anyone else has this issue in the future, this was the bulletin # for the fix from VW: 2036881/1

Hi guys, I want to talk with anyone who has had numerous problems with their 2011 polo 77tsi 7 speed DSG.
My Polo is now 2years and 9 mths old and has been going back to the dealer for multiple problems since about 3 months old.
Problems so far
Rough idle at start up - ECU update
Rough idle at start up - Turbo Actuator Spacer installed
Rough idle at start up continues- ECU Update
Problem with DSG not changing gear (DSG gets stuck between gears and engine over revs)- Think they changed Program in mechatronics unit but am unsure if this is what they did)
Rough idle at start up continues but now with a rattle at start up - Turbo Actuator Spacer Removed and then Replaced again with another ECU Update
DSG Gear problem again - Mechatronics replaced ( my car was being recalled anyway)
Rattle/ hydraulic lifter type noise and rough idle- Timing Chain and tensioner Replacement.
Car intermittently lurches due to unknown reason. suspect DSG but am not sure- They find nothing wrong
Car intermittently lurches due to unknown reason. suspect DSG but am not sure- they find nothing wrong again
Car intermittently lurches due to unknown reason. suspect DSG but am not sure - they do some adaption change (not sure what the heck that is)
Car intermittently lurches due to unknown reason. suspect DSG but am not sure and rattle/hydraulic lifter noise back- they find no rattle but get symptoms of DSG playing up- fix, unsure they realed off some long winded code for the fix they applied and said my car drives smooth......
I have just got my car back today and the Rattle when i started it was so loud I could feel the timing chain rattle through the plastic cover that I was too scared to drive it to work so I took my wifes 1998 Toyota Corrola for the 100km drive to work.
Id like to hear from anyone for any ideas as to what the hell i do now.
Hi All
Just picked up my new Gti which was delivered 18 April 2014 (with 10 kms on the clock). The only optional extras I got was the tinting and VW 17" Motorsport wheels.
Since then, I have driven the car about 1,500 kms in the 2 weeks (as part of the break in process). As much as a I love the hardware in the car (its has been a absolute joy to drive), I have had the following issues which has been detracting (and unexpected):
- Stereo head unit ("Radio")
The radio stopped working on the day the car got delivered. Some days, when I start the car the radio will turn on for a minute or so before turning off.
However on Sunday, the radio turned on randomly but, when the radio screen went off (again at a random time), the radio did not go off (like it usually does). The radio did not turn off even after the car was turned off, ignition key taken out and the car locked. After the radio was on an hour after I locked up, I called up the Volkswagen assist, who sent out a technician whose only choice after his inspection was to disconnect the battery.
Since he disconnected and reconnected the battery, the radio is back to its usual self (i.e. still does not turn on no matter what you do).
- High pitched squeal from front wheels well area (sounds similar to brake squeal)
Since I have received the car, when idling along or just coasting to a stop, (less than 15km/h) I hear what sounds like a metal on metal high pitched squealing noise. Sometimes it pulses, sometimes its a constant noise until I come to a stop. Once I am moving faster than 15 km/h, or when I come to a complete stop, the noise completely disappears. I have checked the brakes (and also had the technician inspect it when he came for the radio) and came up with nothing.
I have already booked in a pit-stop service with Austral Volkswagen (at Newstead) this Wednesday to do a oil change and to look at the radio. I will also ask them to look at the squealing issues.
Such a pity since I absolutely love my car, hope they are able to resolve everything this service. Will keep you updated.
It's been about 3 weeks since we got the car back with the software update and it never fixed the problem. Been doing it every morning since.
Now they're saying that they couldn't even replicate the problem when I brought it in, which makes me think this "software update" sounds even more suss than it did before!
Taking it back on Friday while we're away for a week. Telling them that it really needs to be diagnosed and fixed this time. Obviously.
But if they give me the same old run around then I'm pretty sure some further action is going to need to be taken. They don't seem to get the gravity of the situation being that this car was bought brand new 3 months ago and has not started in the mornings every single morning since we've had it.
What would you guys recommend as next point of call? VW Australia? Then ACCC after that?
Love the car, just obvious want the thing to START!! Pretty basic operation for a new vehicle.
My car has been shuddering really bad recently in 2nd. I called the dealers I bought the car from and they've asked me to bring it in for a road test, the minute I did that the car has started driving fine again. I'm just worried that it's not gonna do it during the road test and now they won't do anything about it.

I had the same thing!!! Dealer drove it it was fine!
TAKE NOTE!
The cable to my Intake Manifold was disconnected the first time I had the same issues... but it shuddered in all gears... at all speeds! I mean at 100kph too.. felt like it had no power and just shook in idle.
Took 6 weeks for the car to go in to get properly looked.
The cable to the manifold was broken... it was connecting right to the engine via this cable. Couldn't they have seen it when they connected it back in?!

Ah crap does it drive better now? What was that cable for
Considering mine is a DSG I figured it could be the clutch pack. It feels as though the clutch slips too in D2, revs high doesn't take off as quick.
Reckon they can get details if they hook it up on to the computer? Well I guess they won't hoist it up unless they experience anything would they.
The other issue is that I bought the car from a Honda used car dealer, do hondas have DSG transmission's?

If it's under warranty goto a VW dealer...
I had my clutch replaced after it kept slipping...
Only VW's deal with DSG...
The cable was from the engine to the Intake Manifold..
