Well, looks like it's time for me to claim warranty for my DSG.
Going around a round-a-bout, accelerating gently to 100km/h, puff of smoke out the back, felt like I lost power. Pulled over immediately and shut off the engine.
Seems to be "fine" again, but gently acceleration under load, but low-revs, and there's a "noise" from the front of the car. Like it's dragging itself on the road. Hard to describe. And a ticking noise.
But again, it's hard to cause it to happen when you want to. Will call up the dealer's tomorrow and book it in. No error messages on the dash to make it even harder.
Which dealer are you gonna take it to? I find the belco dealer is absolute ****house when it comes to warranty repairs. they give you the good ole' VW bs. I have yet to take my car to Lennock in Phillip but if theyre just as crap as Belco, my cars going CVWC for services.
PS: I think you live near me! Yours is a Red GTI?
Belconnen Slaven are *****. From the sales repuls reps, to the useless tack-on Holden service dept. AVOID.
Been to Philip and they are good. Twice for runtime service. Fast, friendly and courteous.
CVWC been to once. Great speaking to the mechanic / owner. Will be going there for upgrades.

Thanks for the wet wipe tricks for smudging, got same issue too!
Also to note, strange but had a similar issue to eaglehawk today. Just calmly accelerating out of roundabout getting to 5th, bang, big clunk from 4 to 5 (in d mode) followed by massive plume of black smoke out back... Didn't shift abruptly or anything, just a loud clunk and lots of smoke. Car didn't report anything out of the blue, yet if anything was more responsive after LOL
I took the Golf TDI to the Belconnen dealer once, for it's first major service. It took them 5 days. They couldn't work out how to re-prime the diesel engine. On top of that they left parts in the car tha rattled for a week until I found them. So you can guess which dealer I'm calling tomorrow
Yes, it's me, I think. There's 2 Red GTIs in the suburb![]()

Black is fuel smoke so it was probably in too high a gear. I get that in D sometimes when I put the foot down coming out of the Melba tunnel onto the eastern, if I don't put the foot down enough to drop down a gear then it just belches out smoke and rumbles like crap until I drop it down myself.

Great info, thanks gavs. Thought it was the box giving up!!! Glad to hear that![]()
Yeah, just a fuel dump - I get that quite often.
I now know how to replicate it exactly and when I did the other day, the DSG didn't like me.
I was in manual mode, in 7th gear, crusing around 60kms (in an 80 zone), so I hit the throttle hard so the car would just use the torque to accelerate (and throw out the black smoke) but the DSG decided otherwise and threw me back into 2nd gear - the engine made a hell of a noise.
Guess nothing is truely manual!
As a note, I don't drive around trying to break the car but the dealer wanted to know what the smoke was (as they didn't believe me) so I had to figure out a way to replicate it!
