MY13 POLO Colours options Metallic / Pearl Effect !!

Metallic / Pearl Effect !! are they the same thing? coz in the my13 polo brochure they both in the same line like this Metallic / Pearl Effect as a O for options. when down to colours on the brochure it only show the Deep black has the Pearl Effect and no other colors have them beside their colours. and only 3 other colours with metallic beside them ( Pepper grey, silver, shadow blue. dose it mean these 3 colours ( Pepper grey, silver, shadow blue ) only can come with metallic paint as Option? and Pearl Effect only for black??

i saw this in carsales :

MY13 POLO Colours options Metallic / Pearl Effect !!

They are different. Metallic is the metal flake that is suspended in the paint. This is generally tinted with different colours (a lot of the time it is flaked anodised aluminium) to add a touch of vibrancy to the flake. In black it's generally green with a touch of purple or gold.

Pearl is different. Pearling is when you add another transparent colour or colours in the form of powder etc to a clear intermediate layer between the base (black in this case) and the top clear coat. This helps to add depth to the paint and without knowing the exact process VW use, I'd say that most likely this is the layer than contains the flake as it makes the paintwork 'pop' more than just regular metallic black. After pearl you can also have candies, multiple pearls, over layered candies with pearls etc, all topped with clear for the ultra gloss finish. Painting is a black art and why a perfect finish is a true masterpiece.

I had a Car once with Pearl paint and it had had a couple of scrapes and some panels repainted.

In daylight some looked darker than others At night those ones looked lighter than the others.

A really knowledgeable??? painter told me it all depends on how they painted it

Eg from left to right or right to left as it will in this type of paint give a different effect.

It certainly did whatever the reason so I would be hesitant to get it again.

sorry i think i have mistaking you guys sorry i didnt say it really well.

I'm trying to say about the options on Polo my13 colours, in the brochure it say Metallic / Pearl Effect cost extra.

and Deep Black in brochure only one colour have Pearl Effect next to it and no other colours. I was thinking is a Options that cost extra to which ever colour? like metallic white or pearl effect white as a option only need to pay extra??

or only deep black have pearl effect on it and cant have metallic? and as i said in the brochure only 3 colours have metallic next to it ( Pepper grey, silver, shadow blue ).

Im just think only those colors stated metallic or pearl effect will have them, like candy white never can have pearl effect or metallic from VW?

Dealers quite often use generic paragraphs in these ads which can have errors in them in relation to a particular car.
You normally have to pay extra for any premium paint. The ones that have metallic will be and the one that has Pearl will be but wont be metallic There will only be the colors stated in the brochure so presumably there wont be a Pearl white or blue or red. Only pearl Black.

So if you dont get plain red or white or similar it will be an extra and cost accordingly.

Have you bought a car and have an invoice or are you just reading the ad in Carsales.

Anything with an O or an A in a Brochure is an extra and costs you I have 10 extras on my Passat which were $10,500.

Whether you can negotiate that down is up to you.

Sometimes premium paint gets thrown in Sometimes not up to negotiation

As stated, pearl paint is a 3-stage process as opposed to the flat or metallic 2 stage, base/top coat. The average Joe would be hard-pressed to pick the difference unless he saw the 2 paints side by side, but if you get the paint code off the build plate (not sure where exactly it is on a new Polo sorry), then a quick google search should answer all your questions.

Just keep in mind that pearl finishes are significantly more expensive to repair, and a simple scratch can end up needing half the car painted, as the 3 layers make it very very difficult to get the colour exactly matched
