    Must do VCDS recodes

I know we've talked about VCDS recodes in a few places and wanted to hear about what your list of VCDS recodes on the standard GTI is. I am going to have the dealer recode some things on mine and wondered if I am missing anything?

    - Central Locking - Can we set the system to unlock all doors on 1 press of remote?

    - Non Xenon DRLs set to off, VWs bodge for using the lights as DRLs is just pathetic when at night you need to switch them from 0 (where they are on low beam) past side slights to on, to have them on properly.

    - Brake reset to a harder setting, I find the existing brakes not that great as even the 1.2 has better initial bite, im used to them now, but expected a more firmer/higher pedal on a modern VAG product.

    - Dash screen config - can we recode the info we want on the dash? Id like outside temp, dist to empty and speed, I dont care about some other things. I could code my old Tamora dash so just what i wanted was shown, hmm...

    - Code out the BT touch screen unit as the bloody thing currently needs to be in place when i switch the car on to 'see' my phone, mental.

Any comments on the above greatly received, but also anything else I should have done?

Please refer to the VCDS specific area of the forum regarding anything VCDS specific, you can link directly to it in the stickied info/DIY thread.

I was more thinking this thread was about 'what things do you think the Polo GTI needs to have reset from standard' not 'what are the options available on VCDS for the Polo GTI' Gav, but if you feel its not useful then feel free to kill it.

I did VCDS recoding on Saturday with M4RKO from VWGOLF.

-We set the central locking to self lock after 15km/h
-Horn to beep twice when locking the car
    -DRL on upon engine start
-doors unlock when key is pulled out of ignition
-Emergency brake flashing (brakes flash fast upon heavy/emergency braking)
-Emergency braking light flashing when indicators are active (hazards/turning signals) it looks cool hahaha xD
-Override/turn off DRL by switching on Terminal 15 (parker switch)

I need to do a **** load more next week with my own cable...

You will find that the Headlight section/DRL is Byte 23, Byte 16 is the diagnostic section for the headlights

Byte 0 is for the locking system

There are some great ideas in there Hail, I like the DRL on engine start. Ive always been a believer that if you treat your battery well it will last a long time and one way to be kind to a battery is not to switch everything on (eg rear demist, lights, wipers, AC and stereo when in winter) before starting the car. My honda accord battery lasted my full 7 years of ownership and I feel that is testament to my mantra, 'everything off before switching off, nothing on before switching on'.

Is the flashing brake light things legal in Aus? I would do it but I wasnt sure...

(cheers for byte info - im now wondering if i should just buy my own cable, hmm... I have one for my Alfa, but its the older K version i think)

Well its a safety feature, as well as it doesn't flash unless its under high/emergency braking.

Also when the blinker is on...it just blinks like the normal indicator (Similar to American/German rear lights when turning).

This thread is for the Golf, maybe you should copy and change as needed so you have one for the Polo:

Hey Hail hope your LED daylight is going well and cant wait till they are installed. Just wondering if you could expand on your recoding on

"Override/turn off DRL by switching on Terminal 15 (parker switch)" What is that referring to? Does that mean your main headlights are off and only thww 2 tiny parker lights are on whilst it is in the first position on the headlight switch (lefthand side of the 0 position)? If so to change this simply go to

    1. Navigate to 09 - Central Electronics - Long Coding
    2. Byte 23 - toggle Bit 6.
? (this was taken from the golf section and simply just followed your byte info)

    sorry about all the questions

nope...the parkers are on as soon as i turn the ignition to start the car now

But in order to turn off the two parkers you now have to turn the dial in the parker position, turning the knob to full/low beam will turn both the parker and low beam light on as usual...

The reason I have done this is because once the DRLs are installed upon ignition the lights turn on

If I want them off...simply turn the knob to the parker icon (centre icon) to switch the drls off...sorry if this is confusing...I sort of had a few drinks tonight...whoops
