Was there a person under the car???? just kidding...I hope it's nothing severe
Hi all,
I just purchased a 2012 Polo GTI on Saturday and I went to give it a bit from the stand still and heard a massive bang from the engine bay and felt it throughout the car. I was thinking a loose or broken engine mount.
Has anyone had this issue?
Cheers, Luke

Sounds like axle hop... Quite common in FWD cars.

Axle tramp or possibly a failed dogbone mount.
Yeah if it happened during the shift from 1st to 2nd then it's probably due to the retarded traction control system. I get it a lot unless I turn it off, basically as soon as it detects wheel spin during a high-throttle shift it dumps all boost for about a second, which causes a big thump and loss of power. With the traction control off you might get a bit of chirp during the shift but it seems like what the traction control system does is much worse for the car.

Noise and shudder from 1st to 2nd could also signal wanged DSG clutches, fairly common with the DSG7

Was it a bang or a dududududud, if that made any sense? haha
A massive bang could be a mis/back fire? but if it's repetitive, it could be wheel hop like the others have suggested.
It's axle tramp mate. You reckon it's bad in your polo....
