Less boot space in GTI vs. other Polo´s..?

Hi all,
Has anyone looked at options to get the standard Car's boot space back.

I would be interested to know if anyone has tried options like a smaller battery and perhaps mods to the existing battery setup in the POLO GTI, so that the standard cars bootspace is back.
Keen to see if any options are possible here.

you could always just take the spare wheel out and adjust the boot trim?

But you'd still have a bloody great big battery in the middle of the spare wheel well, so I'm not sure what you'd gain by removing the spare. It's only a skinny, emergency use one anyway, unlike the other models in the range.

Having seen the hole in the GTI engine bay where the battery normally sits, I'm surprised they couldn't get a battery in there. Maybe there are reasons other than space for it being located away from the engine?

Of course there is, it's for the weight distribution and balance. The Fabia RS has 20kgs of bolted on ballast behind the rear bumper because if the battery being in the engine bay.

By law, you cannot relocate the battery without an engineers approval. Yes it's a pretty major annoyance having such a limited boot but then again if the buyer didn't like it, they could have quite easily bought something else VW figured that the buyer of a polo GTI was going to be far more interested in the performance of the vehicle rather than the boot space trade off.

The seats fold flat pretty easy too, I do wish the parcel shelf would fit under the boot floor like it does in the new Golf (and maybe the normal polo?) because there is no where clean to put it.

I should probably just leave my Polo configured like a van

I think its 60:40.

NZ Autocar puts all their test cars on the scales - the result for the 5 door GTI (we don't get 3 doors) was 63.1:36.9. Their Verdict was "Best performance bang for buck ever offered in a $38K car comes in a neatly finished, well-built package".

PS to my last, just found the TSI test, results 62.4:37.6. They weigh all 4 corners, full tank of fuel. TSI verdict (July 2010) "Our choice. The most sophisticated supermini on the market at present."
