Well, this saga has ended well. The polo drives like a new car. Much praise for Carlins in Brisbane and their repairer QLD Automatics ask for Dave. Carlins followed up and kept me informed frequently, gave us a late model loan car, and I gave them a box of Coronas!

Good to hear it all worked out for you! Sounds like you've had a far more positive experience with your local VW dealer than the rest of us have had with ours. Glad the car drives great now!

If all of the speil that they gave you is 100% true, this is a perfect example as to why you should only ever take a a dsg to someone who knows what they're doing and there is very few repairers that do!
Good to see it worked out for you!

And now for feedback you probably won't like .... sell it now while it is working and before it breaks/act up again.

It will break again and within a much shorter time than is acceptable. Despite VW's repeated claims/denials the inherent problems with the Polo 7spd DSG has not been fixed and it is a ticking time bomb. Given this car's history, no further claims to VW, selling dealer or even the ACCC will help either. Be prepared to spend thousands next time .....

My wife's Golf TSI is over 4 years old and its 7speed DSG has never given us an issue. I have a few friends/work colleges with VW's with 7 speed DSG's and none of them have had a issues either. I do know of one that a clutch pack issue but that was caused by the owner driving it like an automatic eg; sitting stationary on a hill with sufficient accelerator to hold position, not using the brake or handbrake. I did a quick education session "it's not an auto, it's a manual, would you treat a manual clutch like that?". Seems to have worked, no issues since that I am aware of.

    Cheers
