How many litres did you fill it with after driving the 695km's?
Here’s what I achieved this week:
695km on one full tank.
(not quite bone dry, filled up again when the trip computer said I had 30km to go).
It includes 3 trips to Geelong and back from Melbourne, that’s about 420km.
The rest was city driving. No “spirited” driving and no passengers.
I always use Vortex 95 from Caltex.
Normally I always get just over 500km without freeway driving, and am usually a little more “spirited” behind the wheel.

Hi Guys,
Thought I'd post my fuel usage, its saying i have 100k's left still after doing my 580km's. It's been half half with City and highway driving so far, with spirited driving every now and then in the city.
I'll be filling it tomorrow morning so I will post what level I refill at and what goes in\how many litres go in.

One question i actually had:
Has anyone used Shells 10% Eth blend in their Polo yet? My girlfriends Fiesta seems to like that stuff plus its cheap..

I only got 608k's with vortex 98, just refueled after it reported 50k's left, ended up putting 35ltrs in it.. I probably cud have pushed it further tho I guess..
My last qtr of a tank doesn't go far according to the computer

When I picked up my car, the salesman told me to watch the fuel gauge... He said once it gets under half a tank on the gauge, it disappears quickly... They mustn't be very accurate...
Also, I'm sure you need to run the Polo on minimum 95RON premium fuel, so don't think you should try putting any 10% ethanol in there - that stuff is only 91RON I think?

I think BP's 10% ETH is 91RON but Shells is 94 as their mix is different. Only reason I asked is because my girlfriends Fiesta being a Euro needs 95RON and runs super smooth on Shells 10% fuel, I ended up putting a tank into the Polo to see how it goes, so far no different in economy from the 98RON. But i'll see how it goes, if I have any troubles I'll just start using 98RON again.
I do 100ish K's a day so I'll know if anything is wrong pretty quick.

If your polo says 95 Premium as a minimum follow it as a rule of thumb as if you fill up with Ethanol and find out your lines are leaking as the Ethanol blend has melted through the plastic hose i would suspect VW won't cover the cost to repair the damages as it recommends as a minimum to us 95 Premium.
P.S could also risk voiding your warranty...might want to ask VW before you try![]()
Finished a new cycle on Caltex Vortex 98, 620kms managed to get the extra 10kms after some small throttle control changes and just general changes whilst in traffic.
I have noticed the car will chew up lots of fuel if standing still for long periods of time, now i have heard rumours going around if your going to stay still for more than 4-5 minutes its best to shut the engine off, as if it takes 5 minutes for you to actually move again you are still saving fuel even though your re-injecting the cylinders.
ok so fuel price today 9th December filled at 7:50am Caltex in Cleveland Street (Redfern) Sydney at $1.36 per litre got 8 cents off due to woolies
total filled 39 litres at $49.92.
