You ain't kiddin'!! The one I rode would light up the rear tyre purely on throttle in 4th gear when cruising on a highway and I couldn't get it to wheelie as the back would break traction before lifting the front.
Back to the OP, a tune is the best place to start and some of the tuners offer warranties (you need to check out their Ts & Cs).
As for the original plan B, I know someone who cancelled their Golf R order and kept their modded Golf MkV GTi because he found the his friend's highly modded Golf R wa boring to drive (too capable and neutral - not enough responsiveness and feedback). The guy was VERY capable at track days so we're not talking about someone that just ponced around the shopping districts.
