One of the (many varied) reasons I sold my SSV to order a Polo GTI was because of the cheaper insurance. Down from ~$110 a month to ~$70 with NRMA

I think it may be the word 'GTI' ... I spoke to them on the phone for ages.. they didn't even think they could insure it because it wasn't garaged?? Then came up with that ridiculous quote... I have no idea why such an issue - I told them they'd lost a customer over it as I've never placed a claim and my other car has been insured with them for the past 7 years (classic veedub). They were completely unwilling to budge on the quote - I think once they got overtaken by AAMI they've become a lot less flexible and easy to deal with.
I'm in Adelaide. 22 yo driver from New Zealand no insurance or driving record here in Aus, have been driving for 6 years, live in a safeish neighbourhood. Here are quote I have obtained.
Just Cars: 894 Premium with $950 excess. (1 year new car replacement)
AAMI : 1467.91 Premium $450 Excess + $400 Age excess (2 year new car replacement)
SGIC 776.67 Premium $450 Excess + $350 Age Excess (2 year new car replacement)
I have a question about insurance, as this is the first time getting comprehensive insurance for myself. If the policy has a 2 year new car replacement, is it worth paying a bit more to still get the agreed value that I want on the car? or can I just save a bit of money and go market value, seeing as if it gets written off in the first 2 years I get a new vehicle and the agreed value is not as important.
And also if I go for agreed value what is a good value to insure for? The price I negotiated with the dealer of $34000 for 5 dr gti with xenons, metallic paint and tints. Or do I add up retail pricing of each component for the agreed value just in case I can't get the same deal again.
I only just noticed that you can save up to 10% in comprehensive car insurance from nrma due to their fuel efficient vehicle saving list. Below are the two types of polo's that are included. I completely missed this before i signed up. Gotta love that fuel efficiency.
Volkswagen Polo 66 TDI Comfortline 5 door hatchback 1.6 TD 2010 - Current
Volkswagen Polo 77 TSI Comfortline 5 door hatchback 1.2 TP 2010 - Current
2011 MY12 Polo 77TSI Manual Comfortline | Flash Red | Sportspack | Front Tints | Car Mats - Ownership taken 30th of September 2011
Just switched both my CTP and comprehensive to NRMA
CTP - $503
Comp - $571 (incl new for old replacement option)
Could have got the CPT itself cheaper elsewhere ($70 with AAMI) but getting the multi-policy discount on the Comp made it worthwhile.
Tip: Call the insurance company as they can often do cheaper than their online quotes.
MY18 Golf 7.5R - Ecotune Stage 1
Mazda RX2 - 13B Bridgeport GTX4202R
Anyone care to explain what i'm doing wrong to get these quotes;
26yo, south east melb suburb, no claims history.
- 77TSI
- DSG
- Reflex Silver (metallic)
- Paint protection
- 5dr
- MY12
AAMI - $1100 (online) , $1258 (phone! wouldnt even try to work on the price even though I have held policies with them before)
RACV - $825
Allianz - $1230
GIO - $1200
A&G - Drivers must be at least 30 years of age to be insured for this vehicle. <-- are you kidding?
Out of curiosity I did a quote same extras for a Polo GTI - AMMI $1200 ?!?!
Would love some tips or info.

Sorry dude but I can't help because im also 26, male, eastern suburbs of Melbourne, with a GTI and I payed just over $600 which included a $50 discount because I switched from RACV who insured my previous car...
To be honest though, my suburb is listed as one one the lowest crime rates in the city and just missed top 5 in the "most livable" survey just done by fairfax.

Come live in sunny Campbelltown... 32yr old drivers and my premiums for the Golf VI and the Multivan are both over $1,000 EACH! The VR6 is over $800.. will be shopping around again next year, but it's more about where I live that's killing me
