NRMA for 768 (36000 AV with 600 excess) including nil excess windscreen. Was pretty happy with the price.

I should have read this thread before insuring my car lol. Lots of great info. Anyway, I just rang AAMI, got a quote of $850 and insured it on the spot as it was a lot cheaper than what we pay for our other cars. Given I'm mid thirties with rating 1 and car is insured in a safe suburb, sounds like I overpaid. Also, I read on other forums that you can't choose your repairer for AAMI? For cars like Porsche where there are two in Melbourne that Porsche approves, or BMW where they have a factory owned bodyshop, it would be very relevant. But for our Polo GTI, is it important to have a choice of repairer? You guys and gals know this stuff much more than me so I will defer it to you.

You can indeed get a quote of your own from your own repairer and submitted it to AAMI. If it is better "value" they can authorise repairs at that repairer.

The problem is that most people rarely use a smash repairer so how would you know which repairer was good or not? Word of mouth? SOmeone got their car repaired there 10yrs ago and it was a good job?

When I was insured with AAMI I never had any issues with repairs done to my damaged cars.

Young male drivers are more likely than young female drivers to take part in risky behaviour behind the wheel. Unfortunately, it's these young male idiot drivers who ruin it for the sensible young male drivers.

Welcome to the Law of Averages! A Insurer will always start at the conswervative end on general quotes. It's then up to the individual to negotiate a policy on the basis of all the info they have to support their position that they are a lower risk.

Do some homework and lots of times working through the system and you'll get a good deal. If you want to just click and buy, so be it.

If you are unhappy with the price, there is a cooling off period. If you're past that, you can still switch. Generally you will be refunded pro-rata.

Price isn't everything, as you already seem to know.

Just got my renewal for a 2009 Gt golf Diesel, last year it was insured for $35,300 with a $400 excess with a 6 stacker ,On line $820
This year it now insured for $33,900 renewal by paying at GIO office is $892 , But if i go on line again and include the RNS510 and is insured for $35,000 the insurance drops to $830 so it pays to shop on line .
