Never mind Acko, no-one's perfect I'll be driving down to Melbourne from Brisbane at the end of this month, I think it would be quickest to go Bris - Sydney then down the Hume, but I'm interested in a more scenic drive if anyone's done it before? As long as I can do it in two days (don't want to do more than 10 hours in the saddle on either day if I can help it).

I recently did that drive from Gold Coast via Sydney on the Pacific. Time your drive into Syders so arrival is around 3am ...no traffic and the winding bends are awesome at night. If you go inland NSW via New England hwy and Oxley hwy you risk driving through nasty kangaroo alley between Gunnedah and Coonabarabran...very nerve racking experience for a solid 30km.

Definitely find a mate to bring imo, as Tim said, half fuel cost, and way more fun.
If you're purely thinking cost...Melbourne airport to the city shuttle bus costs 25$ i think. (perhaps 50, I don't remember). so that's at least 50$ to fork out there are back. If you took a taxi, it would be 60$ each way. Plus getting around via Public transport or taxis, LOTS of money there. If you drive to the city after 7pm or so, parking is free!
Just drive, if you're on here you obviously love your car. Some quality time with your VW should make her happy
I look at my V-Dub, and all I can think is....."Dat Ass....."

Fuel cost is not an issue, little red is on a novated lease. I'm looking like I'm going to be 3,000km short of my nominated kms for FBT bracket purposes, hence the sudden urge for a road trip This way I get to save money (or at least deprive the ATO of it) and see some parts of the country that I've never explored before. Looking forward to it! I may stick to the coastal route I think, not only because of roos but potential road damage from the flooding.

Yeah I wouldn't expect so, I meant the inland route.
