I have a Polo GTI 2012. I took it in for a service and shuddering issue

    Hi All,

The service guy said that it'll cost over $1500AUD to open up the whole engine just to find the issue (whether it's the piston or cylinder that is damaged). My friend told me that they can just shove a scope camera to find the issue. I rang them and they haven't even tried that yet.

Any advice you can give me? How good are these cameras? Do you think he's trying to squeeze a big job (diagnosis) out of me for nothing?

Being faced with a 6K+ bill to replace the engine has got me really stressed out. Looking for advice.

    Thanks for your help!

Polo GTI with the 1.4 twincharge....id bet my left nut you have a damaged piston and low compression. VW know all to well the issue with these engines i honestly cant believe they still do the whole "we have to find out what went wrong".

The 4K pro level borescopes are pretty damn good, but I'd be doing a leak down test first. That will tell you if there is any damage to piston rings, pistons, valves seats etc. It will also identify if it's one cylinder or more. That's always the first place to start in diagnosing a mechanical engine issue.
