This is exactly right. I know a guy that just had his engine changed out in his mk5 Jetta 1.4tsi because of excessive oil consumption due to low compression in cylinder 1. All done as a 'goodwill' gesture. Crap. Vag did it so they didn't have another sh*tstorm on their hands just after winning wheels car of the year
As RoknRob said, it's down to 2 main factors. 1) vw can't build a well toleranced engine and 2) the pressures created by the engine which cause big vacuums and a lot of blowby in the factory D program for the dsg just suck oil into the combustion chambers and burn it out the back. Or deposit it in your intercooler
Spend the money on a dsg tune, less oil consumption and increased clutch life

It is the best possible advice to give and it's not based purely on my experience. No point beating around the bush with it, getting rid of the car is the best option imo. They are rubbish. I've had two cars with that engine and gearbox and they both had inexcusable issues. Other issues with the Polo just continue, there is ALWAYS something wrong with it.
I don't base my comments solely on my experience with these vehicles either. There are enormous threads on here for high oil usage, Polo problems register, DSG issues for the 7sp DSG... and then there is the information I receive directly from VW service employees.
Yes it's not what people want to hear when they have just bought one of these vehicles but it is what they need to hear, whether you like it or not.

I've had my GTI 2 years on the nose now. Since my engine was replaced exactly 1 year ago i have not had a single issue with the car minus some DSG slipping which I am now used to and can thus deal with / work with. Because of this i've decided to keep my POG long term. Not really caring about resale value, but i'm also not sure about bothering with tunes and exhaust upgrades as it may create a problem that currently doesnt exist.
