How to deactivate daytime running lights?

    Hi,

Does anyone know if the daytime running lights on the Polo can be deactivated. Currently mine are always on and I have not found a way to turn them off.

    Cheers

    Joe.

Why would you want to turn them off? The GTI looks great with them.

If your Polo doesn't have Xenons then you need to take the TFL out from the light switch connector. I'm a little under the weather so I'm going to butcher a guide together from other tutorials.

    To remove the light switch...
In the OFF ("0") position, press the headlight switch knob IN. It will recess into the switch body below the level of the surrounding ring. Keeping the knob pressed in, turn the switch knob to the vertical position.

Now, PULL the switch towards you straight out and the entire switch should disengage from the dash. It should pull out just enough for you to have room to unplug the large 17 pin electrical connector attached to the rear of the switch.
Then unplug the connector, inside the switch you'll see a contact marked TFL it should be the 2nd one from the bottom left, between the Xz Xr and 56 contacts. You'll need to remove pin the from the connector that's associated with that pin.

Here's a guide on removing pins from that connector *note it doesn't show the pin to remove!*

If you have Xenons, this should work

If you remove your light switch all you have to do is put a piece of heatshrink tubing over the 3rd (TFL) pin.

This will stop the low beam headlight from being ON the whole time. My parklights and license plate lights is still on tho, they dont bother me, i believe this is a "Nordic" or "Scandanavia" setting that can be adjusted.

It's not necessary to remove the light switch, you can unplug the connector passing from the side cover of the dash...
I did it on a friend's Polo and it works fine...

All good stuff. I'm 99% sure that you can disable the Nordic setting as there is a lot of settings for the lights and we spent a while playing with them to get the fronts off, not realising that they needed a physical fix.

I'd like to see a wiring diagram as I want to totally turn everything off with the light switch off. By removing or shielding the TFL terminal, you only disable the main beam, you still have the front parking light, rear tail light & number plate light on, so essentially this is parking lights with dash lights off.

ive read in the manual, indicator up and headlight flash and hold, cycle ignition to turn off. indicator down and headlight flash and hold, cycle ignition to turn on. Not sure which models this is applicable too but doesnt seem to work on base models, even disabled with computer and they still stayed on.

Bit of a pain, but seems you have a workaround

Hard wiring is the issue. That's why I'm after the wiring diagram.
