It may not be tramp (remember tramp is usually continuous) but it does sound like something I have had which is related to the DSG works and the stupid way it ****s.

When the engine hits the redline the gearbox automatically shifts up to the next gear (which I absolutely hate with a passion) so what would have happened is you take off in first, the wheel looses traction and as a result the revs skyrocket to the redline (which isn't helped by the fact that 1st is a very short gear). The gearbox forces a gear change but when it does the change in the split second, the car will usually gain traction again and as a result it slams it into second gear. When the gearbox slams the clutch it will usually reduce tourqe as a preventative measure which gives you lag.

Really annoying and I would assume its really bad for the gearbox (I have done it twice and I still cringe thinking about it).

Wet weather is usually the problem as you can manage to keep it slipping. Dry weather isn't to bad as it takes a lot more to keep a continuous wheel spin.

How to avoid front wheel spin

Yeah, my thoughts too, asper what happened the other night to me, exactly the same situation and if the engine doesn't have enough power/torque to overcome the tyre grip at the point it time, it compounds the situation. Best thing to remember is that for hard launches, turn the traction control off and hope that you get it just right because otherwise you will get either horrible axle tramp (which is a constant bang, bang, bang) or wheelspin. Tendency on this chassis (all the way back to mk4 golf) is horrid axle tramp rather than wheelspin. Buggered if I know why they have persisted with this setup, considering how quickly bushes etc wear out as well....

Yeah I think in this case rather than help the traction control is causing problems. Seeing as you're already pulling away in a spirited manner you may as well be ready to regulate the throttle if the wheels spin. Also from what I hear wheel hop/axle tramp is better if you spin the wheels more, the traction control might actually be causing it by limiting slip.

I had this months ago on a Stage 1 Fabia RS... thought I had destroyed something and went into limp mode too.

Wet, Wheelspin and lots of revs and up change into 2nd.
